I would get both. I've shot the Makarov and CZ-82 both extensively and they both have their pros and cons. The Makarov is nicer looking and slimmer, whereas the CZ-82 is higher-capacity and generally has a better trigger and sights. For the price that they cost why not own both? That's what I would do.

Would it not make more sense to buy one superior item instead of two outdated inferior ones? If one is on limited budget the CZ82 is just about impossible deal to beat, but......

If you are insinuating the Makarov is inferior, then you must not own one nor know much about them. They are extremely accurate and reliable, in a simple, slim package that is very robust. The design has few parts where the CZ-82 is more complex. I would take a true Mak over any of the others in 9x18 for the robust build and simplicity alone. The fact you can drop it in the mud, pick it up and shoot it accurately and reliable is also a huge plus.

The CZ-82 is a great gun, and you really can't gow wrong at the current surplus prices, but it doesn't make the Mak inferior, they just have their pros and cons.

I believe his point was that if one was going to pay the price for both a Mak and a CZ-82 that would be enough money to buy a weapon that is superior to both. He was responding to a comment saying to buy both. Reading the context, instead of being quick to take issue and zealously advocate for the guns one likes helps one to gather meaning.

As to whether another gun would be "superior" largely turns on what the criteria one uses is and what the intended purpose is. Without accounting for price and using the criteria I find most important in carry gun (or a defensive handgun) I do believe there are superior choices to either a Mak or CZ-82 despite the fact I like both of those guns.

I have been looking at getting another 9X18 and trying to decide between the CZ82 and the Bulgy...

Still tough to decide. The Bulgy is really a pure Mak [still not quite the Russian Makarov] but the CZ just looks more refined.

I guess I would also go with the CZ. And for the price point - why not?

It would look good next to my Polish P63 and P83.

I own all of 'em except the P64. (did you man you have a pa-63? i have one of those too. that's hungarian though). If you already own a P83 and want something a good bit different, get the CZ. The P83 and Mak are pretty similar in feel, really. The CZ is something totally different, shoots and handles nothing the same. Completely different experience. It's one of my favorite guns to shoot actually. Be sure to order an extra power recoil spring from wolf, it helps make it more comfortable to shoot.

Nope - Polish P64. That pistol is a beast. And I do own the P83 Polish also.

The CZ82 just looks more sleek and there are so many of them for sale here in the U.S. now.

I do like the look of the Bulgy with it's red star grips - pure retro commie! :D

The Russian made KBI import I used to own was strengthened and simplified version of the Walther PP if I recall correctly. Solid, accurate, reliable hunk of steel but I would not pick one over modern Glock, Steyr, S&W or XP.

Yes, the P64 is a beast and it will remind you of that every time the trigger is pulled.

One would be mistaken to compare it to something along the lines of a G26 or the like, but I do think the P-64 compares relatively well to a small 5-shot J frame. It's a close range, upper chest/neck/face/head pistol, IMO.

Yes - a lot of people have brought Glocks into the picture - not me. My current 9X18s are what they are...I don't know how all this 9x19 and Glock talk got here. The OP merely asked to compare two pistol choices chambered in the Makarov caliber. The OP offered up a narrow window of comparison that strayed into realms of "why would you want to have a pistol in that caliber?"

Yep the P64 has it's short comings but it is a solid hunk o steel and the single action trigger that is actually pretty good. It does have a bit of a kick but it isn't that bad.
