Portable Bench Ideas

HELP-I need ideas ( hopefully with photos!) on a small portable reloading bench/stand. I will be traveling with my job, and I would like to be able to reload while away from home. I would like to mount either my CO-AX or Rockchucker press on this setup.

I have tried the Frankford Arsenal portable reloading stand, and I did not like it very much. It wasn't very stable and the top was too small.

I used a Black and Decker Workmate for a while. Worked well for me. You can either clamp the loader to the top, or better yet make a separate top with a clete screwed onto the bottom, that can be grasped by the workmate jaws.

Portable bench.

I just tried C-clamping a tool plate to the top of the B&D unit and it seems solid enough. I'd probably just C-Clamp the tool plate to the hotel room desk.

You might also consider a Lee Hand Loader. Pretty slick and good excersize.

a year ago i was traveling a lot with work. all driving but living out of hotels for about a week at a time. when i got back i wanted to spend some time shooting not reloading. So i simply got a 2x8 board about 10 inches long. mounted my press to it. and took a c clamp with me. When i was off work i would take out the press c clamp it to the desk in my hotel room. Then took out my tackle box. which is what i used to carry the supplies. Then started making rounds. When i was done i would put it back in my car as so i did not freak out the maids. So you really dont need much.

I used to load on a Workmate and it worked pretty good. If you added a plate to the top to stiffen and tie the two jaws to gether it I think it would be pretty solid.

I grew tired of it taking many trips to the range when working up new loads. My solution to portable reloading was..

It weighs less than 5#, takes up very little space, and it’s more stable than my bench at the house.
