Does anyone know of any cases in recent history where a nation changed it´s gun laws for the better? I was thinking about it after reading an NRA article about the riots in England. I don´t know of any off hand other than some changes made by individual states in the US.

I vaguely recall reading about some positive changes in one of the old Soviet satellites (Czech Republic?) which now allows people other than government officials to own guns.

And didn't they loosen up the laws on some shotguns (so people could protect themselves) in one of Mexico's more southern states because of increased banditry?

You mean other than the US?

One could say Heller, MacDonald, the sunsetting of the AWB, the removal of the ban on National Park carry, change to "shall issue" carry permit systems in almost all states in the last 20 years, etc...might be good examples of positive change here. I don't know of positive changes in other countries though.

Canada seems poised to eliminate its national registry, but that hasn't happened yet.

I was mainly talking about outside the US. We have had some progress here, not enough yet but one can hope. Hankb, I hadn´t heard about anything like that in Mexico. Do you have a source? I´d forgotten about the ex Soviet countries, I´ve read that several of them have gotten better since the USSR breakup.

Some states are picking up Constitutional carry, NH will hopefully pass it this next year since it was rereffered.

Well, in new nations, they are allowing people to own guns privately. There are some things I would like to see made global, however.

#1: No registries
#2: No AWB anywhere
#3: The allowance of new MG's to be entered into the civilian market.
#4: No more gun licenses, especially those that say "sufficient reason".

We have had some progress here, not enough yet but one can hope.

Oh boy! You really haven't been paying attention to what's been happening in 2A litigation world, have you? Two cases seeking grants of certiorari at the Supreme Court (a 70%+ chance of one of them getting that grant); A slam-dunk decision from Ezell in the 7th Circuit; which prompted 2 Illinois cases to file motions for preliminary injunctions against the IL carry ban; Another case at the 10th Circuit; Three cases at the 9th Circuit; Seven cases awaiting decisions on cross MSJ's; 40+ other cases docketed and running ... And a partridge in a pear tree!!

All of this since the McDonald decision, a trifle over a year ago.

:what: Some Progress??? !!! :banghead:

@ bearcreek

I am referring to the countries that came out of the splintering of the Soviet Union. I am referring to the liberated countries from the Arab Spring. Essentially, any country that has become liberated or born since the fall of the Soviet Union.

Sorry man. I don't think there's been enough positive change to say a "lot" of progress, "some" seems appropriate. Anyway, no use quibbling over semantics. I think we'd all agree we'd like to see more progress, regardless of wether we've had some or a lot thus far.

^ Sounds pretty good and I am glad to know that I was legally carrying a concealed weapon the whole time. They also have this wonderful nectar of the gods with the audacity to call itself beer. It's called Pilsner Urquell. Buy it if you ever get the chance to do so.
