Positive gun report on CBS 2 New York !

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/video/6715311-seen-at-11-whos-packing-heat/

"Seen At 11: Who's Packing Heat?
The latest Gallup poll says more Americans own guns now than at any point over the last 20 years. In addition, women have become much more likely to train on how to use a firearm. CBS 2's Kristine Johnson reports."

( I saw this on NJgunforums.com, I thought you would appreciate this surprisingly positive report on gun ownership, especially when it comes from Channel 2 in New York)

I love the Brady campaign guy who says his position (guns in the home are risky and dangerous) is "indisputable". While are liberal views always absolute? Why do they always say "the debate is over" insert their position here. Talking in absolutes, and extremes just creates emotion and ends intelligent conversation. Very frustrating. The only problem with this piece is they didn't dispute the Brady guy's indisputable viewpoint. However, it was largely positive, or neutral, so a win for the good guys.

Well, it must take some degree of certainty for one to insist on imposing their political views on others in a forum where it is prohibited.

It's a nice change but it seems to focused on how 'empowered women' are than how gun ownership is good for society.

Interesting. She's holding her gun with her right hand but using her left eye.
I used to do that when I started.

Given the number of threads i've seen about the "rare" positive media piece about guns i have to wonder why they are considered rare.

If the story was from another region of the country it may not have been worth posting, seeing that this is from New York City (probably the most anti gun city of the U.S.) I felt it was significant enough to post it.

Just because a person is right handed doesn't automatically mean they are right eye dominant (or vice versa).

(paraphrased)

"Women are buying guns and taking training, while the men... are reluctant"

"Gun ownership among men... has dipped slightly since 2005"

I applaud the increase in the number of American women willing to defend themselves and their own.

I lament the emasculation of American men.

A logical leap is required here to connect those two sentences. If anything, the followup statement should be: "Why are authoritarian views always absolute?"

I dunno. Maybe it's due to the meta-narrative which is often repeated here?

My friend does that. He's left handed but uses his right hand for shooting while aiming with his left eye. Kind of crazy but he's a good shot.

Is there any doubt the Brady campaign wants to eliminate the 2A? How can they say they don't want to ban all guns, just the "assault" ones then turn around and say having a gun in your house is dangerous? If not in the house then where are you going to keep it? :banghead:

great reporting but, is it just me or does it seem like no one in those videos knows how to shoot? I see some old cup and saucer hold, or the gunshop owner doing a really weird bend elbow hold?

Regardless, a positive reporting is always fresh to see especially on CBS

I still do, despite being ordered by my Academy instructor to shoot left handed. Told him I'd turn in an Expert score...and I did. Left eye dominant/right handed isn't a curse. ;)

Good to see anything positive outa that place. :D

Just because she uses an older (and honestly for many, natural) grip doesn't mean she doesn't know how. Everyone's grip is different, even just ever so slightly. We all do it differently, it doesn't mean one is "better" than the other. I've seen the bent elbow before, I don't like it myself but it's prefered by Steven Segal and from what i've seen, he's an excellent marksman. Not attacking you, just pointing some stuff out.

And the report was great. I'm glad my home state of NJ got some props. Alot of my friends and family members who weren't into guns have all suddenly been asking me for advice, to teach them. Some even want to carry a gun and I must mournfully explain that this right has been infringed upon. At least while I'm in PA I can carry my guns:D Freedom is right across the bridge.

Which part does the metanarrative get wrong; that guns are generally reported on negatively in the media, or more specifically that New York city media trends strongly anti-gun?

Because this is a topic-specific forum that aggregates stories from all over the country into one place. When viewed in context of all news stories from all networks in the nation, the ones we see here that are positive are still an extremely small amount.

Who needs a gun as a man? Guns are for the weak and you are "compensating" if you own one obviously. If someone pulls a weapon on you, you punch him down with a single punch! If you get shot, stabbed and die, well at least you died a true man.

Or so I hear...:scrutiny:

The Brady guy was stating the obvious. Yes, have a gun in the home is a risk, but this is regardless of whether or not there are children in the home. Of course, taking a shower is risky, stepping off a curb is risky, eating a grape is risky, and so on.

Regarding the statistics involving new gun owners, they were probably just indicating the number of new gun purchases between two static dates in a specific location (New York City), and while women tend to buy just one gun at a time, a male might buy two or more, or simply not in the market because they already have at least one.

Once again, the news is completely clueless regarding the actual facts and real statistics involving the story.
