Positive LEO Experience (Traffic Stop)

So you got a warning, pat down and shooting the perverbial stinky stuff for a minute and you think that was good.

Don't the police have better things to do?

Decide for yourself, but my advice is to keep quiet about the firearm unless you are legally obligated to do so.

The OP is in Texas so he must notify the LEO he is carrying.
And yes, this was far from a positive experience,IMO.
In 4 traffic stops by NC LE,knowing I was carrying(we must reveal in NC)I was always treated like a gentleman and the firearm never became an issue.

Risking the assumption that a man with a CHL won't flip out is still a risk to oneself.
You think someone who's about to "flip out" on a cop is going to tell you they're armed? It's the ones who don't have a permit (or can't get one due to criminal record, etc.) and don't bother to tell you they've got a gun that you should worry about. I guess cops could just frisk everyone they stop, if their safety trumps the rights of citizens.

I've been stopped three times by LEO's in Texas.

Always informed the officer that I had a CHL and was armed. Never asked to surrender my firearm and never patted down. Always treated the officers with courtesy and respect and was treated the same way in return. Received two traffic warnings and one citation ( which I deserved).
Act like a fugitive from the TV shop "COPS" and my guess is you'll be treated like one.
I guess I'm just really misguided. I kind of think the LEO's are the good guys.

All said and done it could have been worse. We have all heard, or some of you have even experienced the overzealous, billy-bad-ass officer that thinks no one else deserves to carry a gun. I had a recent experience, pulled over for speeding, which I was. (singing to the radio coming back from a Crossroads Gunshow, just something about AC/DC :)
Anyway, after handing over my DL and CWP, the Officer asked if I was carrying, and when I replied yes, he ASKED if I would mind carefully placing it on the seat next to me, and stepping out of the car for a moment. I certainly don't have a problem with a polite request, we ended up discussing the gun show(can you believe he has never been to one?), our various firearms, etc he actually let me off with a warning (which was a bonus). After he turned towards his vehicle he stopped, walked the couple of steps back and repeated himself, "I appreciate you telling me about your pistol, you have no idea what we run into out here..."
I understand my encounter was almost dreamlike in how it went for me, but I also considered what he said, being in a rural area, on an Interstate known for smuggling drugs and illegals. In all honesty I probably really don't have any idea what they run into on a daily basis. Bottom line is, he was polite, he ASKED, not demanded, and on the side of the highway, I was in HIS house. I wouldn't have appreciated the pat down, but I can understand it.
