Late 80's vintage Taurus Model 66 (close exterior clone of a K frame Smith).
The last time out shooting it, and in subsequent dry firing I noticed that once in a while (maybe every dozen shots) the trigger will stick down in the fired position. If I work the trigger a couple times it frees up and I can continue firing.
It hasn't done this before. I can't point to anything in particular that has changed with the gun, as this particular one is seldom shot compared to others here.
Best I can figure from examining the works the only place where the gun is likely hanging is in some interaction bettween the hand and the pawl. Next step in diagnosis (haven't got to this yet, will next time I can look at it) is to mark the cylinder when it hangs and see it it always hangs on the same cylinder or not.
The machined surfaces of the pawl, when compared to my Model 19, are smaller and less uniform. There is visible wear on both the pawl and the hand.
Thoughts from you-all knowledgable people on this? Is this likely to be the issue? I am aware that the pawl and the hand interact in non-obvious ways. Assuming I have diagnosed the problem correctly, are these parts I can replace, or is it gunsmith time?
