We are planning our 4th Open Holster Rally in protest of Maryland’s discriminatory concealed carry laws. The Supreme Courts decision on McDonald will be out and we will build off this decision.

Mark your calendars’ for July 17th and plan on joining us in Annapolis.

4th OPEN HOLSTER RALLY

July 17, 2010

12 Noon – 6:00 PM

Purpose: To have a large, completely peaceful and unarmed gathering of supporters of Maryland “Shall Issue” and 2nd Amendment rights. We will be wearing empty holsters in protest of the current “Discretionary Issue” system that sees Handgun Carry Permits issued only to those politically connected or dealing in extraordinarily large amounts of physical cash, or the occasional person who can meet the high burden of proof needed to receive one for self defense.

How to Participate: The intent is to have a nice day with the family and friends, while wearing in plain sight, an empty holster. You will know others participating in the protest by their open holsters. Join us at the MSI Open Holster Rally Information Booth, located at the Annapolis Waterfront (by the Market House and the City Dock). Stop by, introduce yourself and make new friends.

Basic Safety Rules: All holsters must remain empty at all times. Do not put toy guns, training guns or the like in your holster. We want to emphasize the emptiness of the holsters and our lack of protection. The holster will simply be a fashion accessory, symbolizing our vulnerability to criminals.

Long Term: The plan is to build on each Open Holster Day Rally, gathering more protesters each time, to take the protest to the next “Shall Issue" bill hearing and any bills that concern on our 2nd Amendment Rights.

Boxcab seems to be speaking of Fairfax,Arlington,Alexandria,etc(NOVA) the burbs so close to DC they have become infected by the cross Potomac viruses.Also the Greater Norfolk area is not your most gun friendly place.

Circle out that contamination and the rest of Virginia is quite pleasant.

Boxcab is quite busy.You have to be if you are a gunny trying to improve the situation in MD.Even NOVA looks like Vermont in comparison.He'll be back eventually to confirm or dispute my comments.

Very well said. I still love VA, but Fairfax Co. and surrounding areas has changed since I had arrived in 1974. Too much cityfication and all the problems that come with it. Maryland is worse in some ways, better in others. I got a nice piece of land in Maryland with a short commute. If I could find that in Fairfax I would not have moved.

I have a non-res VA permit and thank God that VA issues them. Now I find myself fighting for the same right in MD. With a possitive McDonald decision and the ground work we have already laid, Shall Issue is getting close. Believe it or not, our best support is coming from some representatives with "D" after their names.

Sounds good Boxcab. I see things in Maryland have been swinging in a positive (right to self-defense) direction over the past year or so. I'm going to talk with some friends and see if this is something we can support. Either way, best of luck, and thanks to everyone for supporting our Second Amendment Rights.
 
Well the SCOUS set them up for us. Now we just need to do our part.

That option is now on the table, thanks to McDonald. By your posting I assume that is what worked personally for you there in Florida. Please pass along your experiences of what worked for you. Who financed your efforts? That is one of the big stumbling blocks that we face.

All avenues are being pursued, Judicial and Legislative. The Courts will work slowly and in baby steps as they try to define what exactly McDonald "means" for us here in Maryland. The General Assembly can change the laws; the Attorney General can change the interpretation of existing laws. We are working to put pressure on all of these.

I was planning on attending but a dear friend lost her battle with cancer (at 40), and the memorial service was the obvious priority. Might there be another one in say... Inner Harbor Baltimore later this summer?
 
We held one at the Inner Harbor last fall. Very poor turn out and 90% of the people we talked to were tourists from out of state... even other countries. So we have not decided to return there. We are looking at county and the state fairs, etc. Check out the MSI web page and sign up for email updates to current activities (the web page lags behind some).

Take Heart from "poor turnout"

I comiserate with your feelings, that many more should be involved. Imagine my dismay when 2 million turned out for the Blackhawks victory parade and about 300 turned out in Chicago to clelebrate McDonald (SAFR3). I have almost despaired over the annual disparity between turnout in Springfield (IGOLD) and Chicago where the population is 500x that of Springfield. Granted folks from all Illinois come to IGOLD but the same should be for SAFR yet many argue that they won't spend $ in Chicago or are afraid of crime etc. The idea that is my salvation is that after standing on the corner of the street in Chicago's Loop and counting how many of the passing crowd would I wish had access to a firearm. I remembered the sstory of the flock, the wolves and the sheepdogs. NOt all sheep want to be or can be sheepdogs and its up to those of us who hear this call to continue to act to restore our rights and abilities. Now since McDonald and with the election being <99 days away, I can not only hope we elect conservative governor and congressmen and that the fight will go on with a little support from government instead of opposition. I 'm reservedly excited!:what:

The Second Amendment Foundation has filed suit in Federal Court. Alan Gura is the attorney.

"The lawsuit alleges that 'Individuals cannot be required to demonstrate that carrying a handgun is ‘necessary as a reasonable precaution against apprehended danger’ as a prerequisite for exercising their Second Amendment rights.'"
