I thought I remembered hearing that there were Federal laws forbidding bringing firearms onto U.S. Postal Service property. Is that true? If they exist, do they only pertain to bringing one in to the Post Office building loaded or does the prohibition include the entire U.S.P.S. property including the parking lot as well? Would weapons in motor vehicles be exempt and under what circumstances? I also believe that there is a prohibition against political activity such as trying to gather signatures there also. Can anyone verify any of this? :)

Thank you Roy. I am tired of hashing this one out and that bit of background and research made up my mind a while back. I do wish the mods would lock this thread as it will surely turn into a 9MM vs. .45ACP debate shortly.

I may be able to salvage this thread. Our local post office parking lot sports a sign that states that by parking in the post office parking lot you agree that your vehicle can be searched for any reason. I was wondering if this was post office policy or if other people had seen such signs at their location. I can snap a pic possibly.

I worked for the USPS for over five years prior to quitting last year. I can attest to the fact that as a whole, postal workers are probably the most well armed group of people in the country. The rule for employees was that bringing a firearm onto postal property would get you fired. Of course, we were subject to different rules than the public.

Here's something to think about: How can having a firearm in the post office be illegal if you can bring them in to mail them?

In my area the USPS offices display the state-approved "No CCW" signs which makes the issue moot around here. These are the same signs any business can use to legally disallow CCW. No legal USPS carry here.

I've been a postal worker for almost ten years at a very large installation and definitely agree. :)

There have been several times, that I am aware of personally that contractors and their employees have parked in our lot with longuns in plain sight in a gun rack ect.... and the only thing the postal inspectors did was tell them to keep them out of sight, they made them put them behind the seat.

I'm also not aware of any instances of anyone being charged soley under 18 USC 930 if anyone can provide a link/info. I would be very interested in said info.
