The season lengths have very little impact. The deer densities in most areas of the midwest and northeast directly reflect land access. Private land and no-hunting zones pretty much sew up big chunks of these states where you see lots of animals, and of course hit a bunch of them on the roads. Making the season longer or selling more tags only removes animals from places people can legally access.Quite a few have seasons that are way too short. Those are the states with the highest instance of deer/vehicle collisions. You would think the insurance companies would lobby for longer seasons.
As for 45 acp carbine, I have no issue with it for deer under 100 yards. I'm sure 200-250 hollowpoints will get the job done just fine.
