There's an old Wingmaster LW (Lightweight?) over at KTP, it's in cosmetically rough shape, the bluing is almost gone, and the steel has a strange purply-brown color to it and a faint blush of rust, action is smooth though, bore is clean, and the wood is in pretty decent shape
They're asking $170
I'm thinking I could treat this as a refinish job, similar to what I did with my old Marlin GA-22 .22LR (Model 60 made for Western Auto stores), remove the rust bloom with 0000 steel wool and get a can of Rust-Oleum High-Temp grille paint and give the steel a coat of rust-preventative paint, set it up as a car gun
What's the story with the LW series, steel receiver? aluminum?, how durable is the LW compared against a standard Wingmaster? is it worth trying to give this 870 a new lease on life?
