Hey all,

I've searched high and low but still can't seem to find an answer to my question.

I have a few thousand MBC bullets that I'd like to powder coat. I don't want to have to resize before shooting (deal breaker for me).

Will melting off the lube then powder coating result in a bullet of the same diameter, or will PC a regular lubed bullet result in a bullet that's a few .001 too big?

thanks,

Melt off the lube, then wash in acetone. If you shake and bake your pc, you'll get .001 to .003 increase, spray on you can get .0005 or less if you want, but I go to .001 normally. I still run em through a Lee sizer though.

Coat them, then resize. They come out to the proper diameter for a lead bullet (.001 oversize). Nothing more to it then that.

I asked a similar question to one of the vendors that sells the Hi-Tek coating. Since I don't make my own bullets, I asked if I could boil off the lube of some of my existing stash of 9's and coat them. The answer: "We tried that and the coating doesn't stick well."
I know you're going for the powder coat. But if you proceed, make sure your finished product passes the "smash test" (hammer smack).
