My powder funnel is Lee, and with .223/5,56 the neck goes into the hole, unlike fatter pistol brass which does not. this allows powder to sit around the neck, and when you pull it down to let that last of the powder in, the hole opens up around the neck and spills out. Then the charge is re weighed until I am happy most went in. I do it over a sheet of typing paper so I can see what spills.

Is there a powder funnel out there more .223/5.56 friendly? I can show a pic of the problem if this isnt clear.

I thought about putting a small washer around the neck so it wouldnt go up the funnel hole so far, but that leaves a gap...

anyone try this: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/480995/satern-powder-funnel-22-caliber-aluminum-and-brass

or

Surprised Lee doesnt have adaptors...

Looks like I'm not the only one:

I have ordered the RCBS kit, and one from MTM. Very inexpensive on Amazon, free 2 day shipping. I want the Satern, but am too cheap to pay for it and same amount for shipping.

OK what do folks here use?

Thanks,

I use the RCBS plastic funnel. On .223, the case neck comes right up to the hole and the powder flows right in.

I think I got the lyman funnel after I tried to "fix" the lee one for 223.

Occasionally a couple kernels will hang up in the lip/case mouth. I find a quick angle and rotation once around seems to knock it in

I also use the RCBS powder funnel. 223 is the smallest caliber that will work with it, but it works good in my opinion. Don't push down hard when dumping powder into case because it can cause the brass to stick in funnel, which is no big deal if you carefully remove it without spilling any powder.

After struggling with this, I bought Satern caliber specific funnels - great fit and perfect powder drop every time. As with all powder handling stuff, wipe with a dryer sheet every now and then and powder will flow like water without sticking. Cheap at about $13.

Really like that one, for right this minute I discovered that the spout on my dillion scale's powder pan is pointy enough that with my thumb and forefinger on each side I can dumo it in with no spillage. Not the fastest way, but until The RCBS set gets here it is faster than the Lee.

Either I will have to wait until Midway has more stuff I need to make shipping worth while or stumble on to it at a gun shop or show, but I will have the aluminum Satern funnel for .223!

I know what you mean, I couldn't figure out why I had so many kernels laying about until I got a better look at my worn-out Lee funnel. For a quick fix I went to the grocery store and got the smallest funnel I could find and dressed the tip with a file so it sits in a .223 case.

I have the Saturn for 223, and it is pretty good, but it will still lose a few kernels of fine ball powder that sit on the edge of your case mouth.

A 22LR case will fit inside a 223 casemouth. I built a funnel from a 22LR case and some 0.007" copper clad. It doesn't look like much... but my Saturn 223 funnel found the bottom of a garbage can, and I still have this.

Another happy Satern Funnel user. I bought one after my RCBS plastic funnel leaked grains of powder loading .223 cases. The all metal construction pretty much eliminated the static cling headache during loading.

Another vote for Satern. Light weight, stable, no static worries and you couldn't miss it with a powder charge if you were blindfolded.

Disclaimer: Blindfolded reloading is recommended for professional daredevils only on a closed course. Do not attempt at home.

Satern funnels rule. I use them for 30/30 and 30/06. But I rarely load .223/5.56 manually. Powder on the press for that caliber, as well as handguns.

When I loaded for .221, .222, and .223, my RCBS did the same thing. I finally dug out my old Herter's funnel. Ancient but works.

You guys that are saying satern's are the best, really need to try XHCG. You will give your satern's away... no joke.

Most of the time I use Satern funnels but I also like the RCBS setup that comes with a drop tube and "tips" to fit several calibers. Both seem to get all the powder I pour into the cases.

If money is no object, by all means look at the XHCG's. Heck, why not just get a Prometheus while your at it:what:
