Hi, I'm reloading my first rifle cartridges... in this case 30-30 on my lee turret with lee lube. I'm using just a teeny bit of lube in each cartridge neck, but I notice the powder is sticking to the neck of the cartridge. Am I doing something wrong?

Dubious if you're going to lube the neck this way every case may be to much, try every other or, every 3rd case or, get a midway case neck cleaner/lubricator with mica.If you want to save a few bucks a clean (as in no powder solvent) 30 cal. bore brush and some graphite will do the job.

Dubious...After lubing the case and running a lubed brush into the mouth of the case retumble them for 15 to 30 minutes and that will solve your problem.

I use a RCBS lube pad and lube. I roll the rifle cases over the pad then run a nylon brush that has some RCBS lube on it into the case mouth. Resize the case, wipe the access lube off the outside of the case, trim if needed and toss back into the tumbler for 15 to 30 minutes. What??:what: You don't have a tumbler?? Get one...:D

If loading from a block, I would twist in and out a Q-tip or similar before charging, and the graphite (or mica) idea as well as the every few idea seems like very sound advice given from the others.

Get a nylon brush that fits your neck. Roll it on the lube pad or wipe a tiny bit of Imperial Sizing Die Wax on it with your fingers. Run it in and out of the neck a couple of times. It does not take much lube at all.

Redding used to offer carbide expander balls for their dies as well as RCBS dies. They work great. I do not know if they still offer them.

When full length case sizing I like the spray lubes. After sizing the cases get an hour or so in the tumbler. You need to make sure the primer pocket and flash hole are clear of media before priming. If neck sizing only no lube is needed. Never had any problem seating the bullet.

but I notice the powder is sticking to the neck of the cartridge. Am I doing something wrong?

So what? Don't worry about it. There's just not enough lube there to be a problem.

If I'm using a pad, I use a nylon brush, just roll it lightly on the pad, then run it into the neck. It makes passage of the sizer button MUCH easier. I never bother to clean it out.

If I'm running shells through the dillon, I'm using RCBS case slick, which is a spray lube. It also does NOT kill either powder or primers. Some of it gets inside the necks, again so what? It causes some powder to stick to it, but the bullet pushes it through the neck area to be burned when it fires.

Unless you have globs of lube dont worry about it. I have had the lube and powder stick to the sidewalls too. I just think oh well next comes the bullet. Never had a problem with it. Take them to the range they all go BOOOOM.

Like i said if you have a huge glob then clean them out. if anything it will make you think on how much case lube to use next time.

I agree, no worries unless there are great globs of lube. The bullet will push the powder into the case. It's no different that the powder that sticks to the lube on the bottom of bulk cast bullets.
