I have a Hornady powder measure. When used with even the finest spherical powders it works wonderfully. When I attempt to throw Power Pistol it jams between the cylinder and measure body.

Has anyone else had this problem? Would another measure be tighter? I like this powder but after trying H one ten for a different pistol, I don't like trickling any more. (yes, twenty five to three thousand rounds later.)

I've tried Silhouette and it is a very good powder. It meters excellent and has a low extreme spread. But does not have the same feel to it while shooting. It also emits a darker cloud of smoke, when compared to Power Pistol. Insignificant really but it is my observation.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you kindly.

Is it a manual measure or progressive / linkage activated?
My lnl ap has no issues when using power pistol. No more than .1 +/- spread.

My Lee PPM meters Power Pistol, umm, perfectly. ;)

WST however, will bind up the action. Almost like it is abrasive.

This is for fourty-five Auto. Two Hundred grain MBC coated semi- wadcutter.
Operated manually. Which may be why I noticed. I would like an AP for pistol loading. My volume is not that great, yet.
It happened the first time I tried. Then one throw would be normal, then stuck again. I thought it might damage the powder, so I resigned to trickle it.
Since the lever worked hard I took it apart to drain it, and saw the squished together flakes on the cylinder.

Yes. It is placed toward the bottom so there is approximately one eighth of the acrylic tube filled at all times. Above the baffle is always full. I understand that a differing powder column will cause throw weight variations. However, I have not gotten so far as to check variations yet.
With H one-ten I have recorded as many as nineteen throws at exactly thirty-four and one half grains. Silhouette meters the same though the charge is eight grains.

This may seem like a silly question, but it needs to be asked. Are you using the rifle insert or the pistol insert?

My Hornady LnL measure doesn't have any problem with Power Pistol, or any other powders. The only handgun powder I use the rifle insert for is TrailBoss, but all other handgun powders are dropped with the pistol powder inserts (I have a couple of them set for specific loads I use all the time).

Hope this helps.

It did! I went to Hornady.com to check. Then headed down to see which one it was. Just the standard one. I took it all apart and investigated it. Nothing seemed amiss. Cylinder to body measured less than two thousandths. While down there I decided to pour in some powder and see if it would give me a problem. Lo and behold it cycled. I can feel it drag on the up swing but falls on its own back down.
This was the first powder I tried in it when I bought it. Perhaps, after several thousand rifle and magnum reloadings it is broken in now, or built up a little graphite to keep the flakes from wegding in so hard. I didn't have to force it either direction and no powder was smashed into a thick plate of shmutz.
A quick test showed excellent repeatability. Ten in a row at seven and nine tenths, one a tenth less, eight more at seven and nine tenths.

I can not relate my how pleased I am. I can use a favored powder again, without trickling (the whole charge). Once again proving no question is silly.

Thanks very much Fred, and all others. Now, to the reloading cave Batman!
(Sorry I'm a little excited! )

I've never used power pistol but my Hornady LNL AP one will measure Unigue within .1 and sometimes .2 if I don't cycle it the same. I also shoot some graphite in it every now and then especially if its going to sit for awhile .

Glad you got it figured out and that it's working for you. Some powders are hard to meter, such as IMR 800X (still haven't gotten that one to meter worth a darn) or Unique. I've got 7 powder measures mounted on my bench, and none of them will meter those two powders consistently, so I don't use them much. My 2 Hornady powder measures work very well with almost all powders, with the exception of those two I mentioned.

Power Pistol has always metered well for me in the Hornady and Redding measures that I use the most, so there had to be something amiss for it to give you problems. Maybe it just had to wear in.....
