I load PP for 9mm, and it works great....Very accurate min to max, even below min loads shoot good. You do notice the flash in dim lit indoor ranges, and on overcast days.
I find that Power Pistol clumps up in my measure and in my ChargeMaster. I have to turn the measure upside down to let the clumps fall into the powder funnel and i have to poke the clumps to break them up. In the CM, I have to poke the powder to get it to flow out (I am not turning my CM upside down). Good powder and it will light up the indoor range at times.
Don't leave it in your powder measure for any length of time.
I prefer HS6 and Silhouette, but have no complaints about PP's performance on target.
Power pistol works great in several calibers. I use it primarily in .40SW. The powder flakes are about as big as Bullseye but definitely smaller that Unique. Powder flows nicely through the measure only sub 3gr drops cause hang ups on my Uniflow. I had a pound of HS6 that I couldn't remember why I bought it, I used it for the my first 9mm reloads 5.8gr with 125gr MBC RN.
On my last Powder Valley order, I threw in two punds of Power Pistol. I like PP a lot for 9mm and .40. I was using Unique but not anymore. Nice recoil, accurate, and I did not see any flames. It was fairly clean too but not the cleanest.
Now what do I do with the left over six pounds Unique. I will eventually use it.
I load 5.5 grains of Power Pistol with 115 FMJ in five different 9mms for target loads. Very accurate and clean. Meters very well through my 550B. Even at that small load however, it makes quite a flash at an indoor range or in the evening.
For 9mm I use 5gr for 124gr bullets and 6gr for 115gr bullets. Both of those figures are starting loads, but cycle perfectly fine. I find that it meters very well and is accurate. This powder is kind of flashy but it really doesn't matter unless you're shooting in the dark. Flash doesn't bother me at all. Another nice thing is that a double charge overfills the case.
I also use it for .38 Special, .357 Magnum and .40 S&W. It's my favorite pistol powder so far.
My Lyman manual says 5.9gr-6.5gr for 115gr bullets and 5.1gr-5.7gr for 124gr bullets, all jacketed.
i load power pistol in 9mm with 5.9 grains and 115 grain bullets. even at this small amount, it produces a big white muzzle blast everytime you pull the trigger at an indoor range. looks cool to me!
i just tried some Power Pistol with some 147g Berry RN loads in my 5.25" XDM and it shot VERY well. Both 4.5 and 4.7 shot GREAT, a bit more recoil than i expected, but very good accurate clean shooting.
My standard load is 6.0gr PP with 170gr SWC in .40SW, works great in my H&K USPc to duplicate my duty ammo for practice. I did work up a PP load my Redhawk in .44mag, 9.5grs under a 240gr SWC yielded 1000fps. Please keep in my this load is not listed anywhere, I e-mailed Alliant to find a reasonable starting load and worked up to my target speed.
When I started handloading ~ 12 or 13 years ago, I tried to work up every 9mm bullet and powder to the point of destroying the pistol.
I did underground testing with a trigger string. Not a good idea. The back pressure sucks grit into the pistol.
I kept the records in spread sheets, not the best format for that kind of data.
But Power Pistol really stands out for getting more power out of the 9mm.
But then, lots of powders will produce more recoil than any production 9mm pistol can deal with.
9mm, 124 gr fmjrn with 5.2 gr PP. Nice load, accurate and not too snappy
40 SW, 180 gr fmjrn with 6.0 gr PP. Much nicer than the 7.0 grs I originally used.
To hot and humid to mess with setting up the Chronograph, maybe in October.
Both out of compact CZ 75's
Next batch I am going to reduce even more, I know going the wrong way. I want to see how low and still have good function and accuracy.
Not that I care about "clean burning" as I clean my guns anyway, but this powder definitely leaves a lighter "ash" color on the spent brass rather than a dark carbon.
just tryed power pistol with 5.0 and 5.2 both functioned fine no failures 9mm 124 gr plated rn going to try these loads with different oal 1.30-1.50 and go with what works
best for me/ there just paper puncher/plinker. did not notice any huge flash or heavy
recoil with this powder ?
My wife like 5.6gr PP with Hornady or MG 115gr, that seems to work well for her, nice recoil and accurate enuff. Plus it makes the powder go further, I use 6.6gr in my .40 using 180gr bullets.
My favorite load is now 4.5gr Power Pistol under a 147gr FMJ Remington "match" bullet. I have found the 147gr bullets of most all makes to be more accurate in my 9mm guns (Walther, Browning, Beretta, CZ, and S&W), so now this handload is my practice round. It was chronographed at 912fps.
