Anyone using power case prep tools for reloading? I'm worndering if they are really worth the money. I've been match prepping my .223 cases and my hands are starting to hurt when I get to the stage where I uniform the primer pocket.

Also, can the power tools be used for match prep of is it just for bulk preping?

I'm looking at the new Lyman Case Prep Center.

I LOVE my Lyman Power Trimmer.

I'm gettin old & lazy & it hurt my hands & arms to have to trim with a Lee case trimmer.

I only wish they'd have an auto mini lathe.
Just set the case in & push a button.

OK, I know that's the height of laziness.

When I remove mil crimps from LC brass and clean primer pockets, I put the little reamer tool or primer pocket cleaner brush in my drill press. Much easier and faster than doing it by hand.

Forster makes a drill press trimming unit, but it depends on the accuracy of your drill press stop and mine isn't quite that accurate.

When gearing up for reloading I knew I wanted a power case trimmer, when I looked at the price of a power trimmer, plus hands tools for champering and deburring, primer pocket cleaning, and neck brushes, i found the hornady case prep center wasnt that much of a differnce in price, and contianed all these items, so that is what I went with. If I allready had a power trimmer, it probably wouldnt have been as good of an investment.

I chucked a Possum Hollow trimmer in my drill press and can trim brass as fast as the giraud. The only issue is that I have to chamfer and deburr after the fact and the Giraud does it all...

I've been running the RCBS trim mate for two years now. I have in and out chamfers, primer pocket uniformer, primer pocket buh and a caiber specific brush mounted min the five stations. Works great and works better with Lyman tooling.

JMHO I would buy the Lyman rig if I had it to do over again. The Lyman primer pocket uniformer works great.

I recently purchased the, Lyman prep center and I'm happy as a bee. It's a little noisy but, this is my first ever so I don't know about the noise level in other makes.

I've been using my RCBS Trim Mate case prep gizmo for about 8 or 9 years. If it breaks, I'll have to buy another one because I'm not going back to hand prep. I can easily fully prep 100 shells in the time it used to take to prep 10.

I use a Giraud for case trimming/chamfering. Absolutely fantastic. Wish I'd done it sooner.

I also have a Sinclair primer pocket uniformer chucked in a battery drill. This is also far easier than doing it by hand.

I only bought mine 3 years ago. After preparing brass without one for 39 years by hand....I agree with Mal H...I would never go back.

The next step was to "fix" my Forster trimmer. Motorized, gravitized, and with a new 3-way cutter mounted, I have flat out done away with the last great bottleneck of reloading. Even with my trimmer now chamfering and deburring as well as trimming, the Trim Mate is still worth it, making short work of primer pocket operations. Why didn't I buy the vaunted Giraud? Only money...and arthritic hands.;) The fixed Forster does a case every 3 or 4 seconds, so it's nearly as fast and you don't have to hold on to the case.

trim and prep 1000 223 range pick ups. Ask question again.

Have the RCBS versions of power trimmer and case center. Will not being going back to hand prep anytime soon.
