One of the LG's in my area has a PPSH-43 for $600. Includes 4 mags. the folding stock is not able to be deployed, but is attached. To make the stock workable would require the $200 tax stamp.

My question is about the price. Does this seem reasonable?

If I went and paid the tax and had the stock fixed so that it would be a SBR, would I need to have the tax stamp with me when I was out and about with the gun?

No it requires some cutting and welding to make the stock workable.

Oh wait, you're talking about the legalities.

This is something best suited for the NFA section but to my to my knowledge its always best to have a copy of the stamp with you and the original stored somewhere safe.

I think you've got two different submachine guns mixed up here; the PPSh-41 (pistolet-pulemet Shpagina, obrazets 1941) is the solid wooden-stocked submachine gun normally seen with a large round disc magazine, the PPS-43 (pistolet-pulemet Sudaeva) is all-metal, has a folding stock and only accepted curved stick mags. It sounds like a nice deal, as long as it's in good mechanical condition.

If these are the Ppsh-43 "pistols" made by Wiselyte Arms, all I've looked at are welded up so throughly that restoring to folding operation is not really feasible. Better to start with one of their Ppsh-43 "carbines" where the stock still folds and then do the paperwork to make it into an SBR.

I keep originals in the safe and a copy with the gun.

The PPS 43's that have the stock welded are really welded...lol. My brother has a pistol and a rifle and I think if you wanted to make a SRB you would be better off buying the rifle version and chopping the barrel. However if you bought a Kp-44 it might be worth fixing the welded stock to take advantage of the 72 round drums.

I have no real interest in making a SBR out of the thing. If I could find a carbine, that is the way I would go. However, living out in the middle of no-where this is something that I have wanted for years, but have never actually seen.

I do believe that this is a 43 with a folding stock. The pistol grip is not wood. I could very well be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

As a pistol, it is a bit unwieldly IMHO. Too much for one hand, and no good place for my left hand. A stock would make it much nicer.

The semi-auto PPs43 should go for about $500, tops. I see them online for ~$450.
