I see that grafs has soft points from ppu available as components and was interested if anyone has tried them. I know PPU has a good reputation, is inexpensive and people seem to like the brass for reloading. In my searches I’ve not turned up a whole lot in regards to taking game( deer/hog sized) with them. I’d love to hear from you guys about your experiences with them. I’m primarily interested in the
.243 100gn sp in my .234 winchester
https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/12605

and the .284 174gn so for my 7mm rem mag
https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/29121

Thanks

The PPU soft point tube magazine .308 bullets work great on deer out of a .30-30. Any bit as good as any of the other bullets I've used over the years.

Get a small batch and see if they meet your accuracy needs. Some barrels and bullets dont like each other.

Yes I’m quite familiar with that. I’m asking about the experience of OTHER people. Seeing how they have preformed on game I want to hunt, BEFORE I buy some to test for myself. That’s why these forums are so valuable.

thank you to those who have replied to my question

Chuck at Alaskan Ballistics tested the PPU 139gr BTSP in 6.5mm on his channel. He runs a good channel that does well documented tests. The spoiler version of the video is the bullet he tested expanded explosively.

For reasons unknown to me, I can't embed the video or post the link without it trying to auto-embed the video.

The title of the video on YT is...

6.5 Creedmoor Privi Partisan 139gr BTSP Handloads

I've taken 3 deer with them. All in 150 grain, .308 Win and 7,62x54R. They were a quality soft point, comparable to Rem/Hor/Speer/Win. They expand without being super explosive, and I've gotten good accuracy with them.

I appreciate this thread.
Likewise, I’m glad to hear these mostly positive responses. I did expect to hear a little bit of everything as even the highest quality Bullets have some people who hate them. Valuable info given the low cost and seemingly wide availability of these.

Before I started loading PPU is all I could get. I'm a big fan of their soft point ammo. Especially their 180 grain. I think they work just as well as any soft point I've used.

I should clarify that I shot their loaded ammo not their bullets in hand loads. Also shot it out of it mosin. Got really good accuracy from them (for a mosin). I actually prefer them over the S&B rounds.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy them and load them up for deer. Just so you know they actually manufacture military ammunition also. Apparently they're well-known in Eastern Europe for being quality I don't know if that means anything but I figured I'd let you know.

I used to appreciate the cost, but they have increased of late Vs Hornady and Speer. When Speer is available, those are my absolute go-to. The attractiveness of PRVI was the price point, although admittedly my sample size of 3 deer at moderate velocity is limited in size and scope. That said, they are a cup and core soft point and seem to act as such.

I have noticed them to be susceptible to surface tarnish more-so than speer or hornady bullets. It's been basically cosmetic, but noticeable.

I would choose a speer bullet every single time. Locally the ppu bullets are the same price as sierra match kings and I made an entire post pointing out that insanity. Watch carefully at price per not by the package.

I like Speer too but they seem to be unavailable in the sizes I’m looking for, which put me on the search for another low cost bullet.

I’ve had experience with both of the bullets the OP asked regarding.

I’d classify them as typically “soft”.
A close comparison would be the older Winchester Power Points.
But soft isn’t bad!
Close range at full velocity ( the .243 and 7mag are very close here) You can expect some fragmentation, and jackets separating. Nothing new....
Well placed shots results in dead deer/game.

Accuracy is mediocre. You get what you pay for!
1.25-1.5” 3-shots is what I expect. Not bad, not great, just good.
One exception: the .264” 120gr BTHP-match has given great groups from my REM Mod-7 .260.
Seated to touch lands, it’s shot 5-shots under 3/4” at 100yds.
I’ve loaded, shot and killed deer with;
45gr .224”
55gr .224” SPT
100gr .243”
100gr .257”
150gr .308”
165gr .308”
They all performed as expected.
Also have loaded and shot:
55gr .224” FMJ
120gr .264” HPBT
.264” 156gr RN BT
.264” .139gr SptBT
.284” 140gr SptBT
.284” 174gr SPT
.308” 150gr FMJ M1
.311” 150gr SPT
.311” 180gr RnSptBt (my favorite!)

Yeah, they aren’t as inexpensive as they were!
One thing I don’t like is that most of the pointed soft points have “knobby” points. I “fix” these by trimming the meplats with a plastic pencil sharpener. It seems to help improve accuracy.
I hope prices moderate.

The ones I shot seemed on par with REM CoreLokt bullets of the same weight. Fair expantion and fair accuracy with the cavat that most of my hunting is done at 150 YDS or less. Still I hope REM bullets come back in stock one day as they were IMO the best performers that price point.

I've used their 150 & 180 hr SPBT in my Bubba'd 303 British. Excellent deer medicine. Took 9 deer with them so far. Full penetration every time, even high shoulder shots I take. DRT each time.
