Prayers for Minnesota

Man I am glad I left that state. Hope to never return.

Now how to get residency in a pro-2A state while in college and still technically a resident of MN, anyone? Looking to jump ship, and quick. I don't want to be associated with that place anymore :banghead:

I got emails from Ruud, Gazelka, and Anderson and all three are on our side.

On the federal side of things it is a waste of time. Nolan's office stated they got 100s opposing to every 1 for gun control and yet he is still voting with his party because "it is the right thing to do".

Those of us on the iron range will not go quietly into the night. The rest of the state may be gun haters, but the range is armed to the teeth and willing to draw the line at the laurentian divide.

The word has it that this law doesn't have enough votes from the Dem's to make it. Lets hope so. If it does there will be a battle that's for sure.

@Grassman: Those cops were probably ordered to suit/ boot up and look interested, but they kinda don't. The boy mayor recently appointed a she-male police chief, and maybe this is their penance for disparaging her lifestyle choice. I cannot imagine having to show respect and discipline in such a situation.

@Harcy: God bless you. Keep up the good work.

They should have refused.

Another Response:
Dear Friend,

I am a life member of the NRA and sponsor or co-sponsor of every major gun rights bill in the last 10 years.

I don't plan on giving an inch in the upcoming battle to take away our constitutional rights. I believe this is a huge smoke screen coming up where the anti-gun people will throw everything but the kitchen sink at us in the way of gun control bills and then try to give a fake compromise solution to then go after the alleged "gun show" loophole, which really takes away our right to sell or trade guns privately to friends or family members without background checks and registration…

We need to fight against this and you can bet I will. Stay strong and come to the hearing on Feb 7th at 10 am in the State Office Building in St. Paul.

Thanks for your support,
Rep. Tony Cornish
Retired Law Enforcement Officer

I do not know if any of you watched or went to the hearings but they are not listening. The author of the AWB left the hearing to go to another meeting. This is how much they care about what anyone has to say. The only way to get their attention is to first peaceably go to the offices of these Reps and show up in force. The masses will be heard the more there are. The hearings have many more in opposition of these bills but it is not enough. The two overflow rooms were packed and they said they would not open more. That is good but not enough. The only way they will listen is to have the capitol literally flooded with people. I know it is hard for some to get off work so if you cannot make it tomorrow to either of the hearings you must call daily to these offices. Their phones must not stop ringing. You need to call only once to the people on our side to say thanks but you need to call daily and have frinds and family call daily to the misguided. Here is a good link a facebook page that is keeping everyone up as to what is going on.

Another response in our favor:
Dear Voter,

I apologize for the form letter style of this email. I have received thousands of emails in the past two days asking me to support gun rights, and I do not have the time to respond personally to all of them.

However, please note:

I want you to know that I support our 2nd Amendment rights and will stand in defense of them. I am also endorsed by the NRA and am a firearms owner. Some of my firearms would be rendered illegal if this legislation were passed. Thus, I have "skin in the game". I do not support any further restrictions to firearms.

For supporters who are interested in attending the hearings, the next meeting is on:

Thursday, Feb 7th, 10 AM
Room 10 in the State Office Building
100 Rev Martin Luther King Jr Dr
St Paul MN 55155

Thanks again!

God's peace,
Jim

I was in Tony Cornish's district until recently. He is our good friend. He has sponsored most of the pro- gun legislation in the last few years. I pray that our pro-gun people prevail. Yes we have way too many city liberal wackos but we also have a strong tradition of gun ownership and and hunting. Deer season opener is nearly a state holiday. I am not sure about the iron range as the former national leader of the communist party lived there. I hope you are right.
In my opinion the metro area, Chicago and much of the east coast should be another country.

Don't give up on the whole metro yet.... I haven't....although I got the hell out of Minneapolis as soon as I could. There aren't many places better than the range though...that's where I deer hunt every year

I love living in this state. There are several unique geographic features found here that exist nowhere else in the US. While I wish there were a few real mountains around here - i still wouldn't trade it.

I once thought of CA much in a similar way. I confused LA and SF as the whole state. Northern CA is a completely different animal than the cities by the bay.

But for those who are unfamiliar with MN, please do not judge the state by it's metro areas. One of our major difficulties lies in that the metro votes blue, while the rest of the state is solid red. This is, of course, driven by those that live in the metro areas. To my disgust, they are sanctuary cities - and with that comes losers who vote for loser politicians who make loser bills and laws. All in the name of free stuff.

I pray for those very same politicians. May God have mercy on the souls of those who try to push such draconian measures - because I seriously doubt that the majority of the non metro areas will.

Both my local reps are Democrats and both have A ratings from the NRA. This isnt always a Democrat republican thing , Its more like rural vs urban. I doubt much of anything will pass. Even Dayton said he wont sign anything thats not supported by the rural lawmakers. He knows he barely won his election and killing gun rights would end him as governor.

I hope you're right ohwell. Watching the proceedings today at the capital one thing is quite clear. The ANTI-Second amendment ANTI-Gun Rights people have already made up their minds. It's disgusting and hope that every bill gets voted down.

Every time I want to contact my rep, I'm forced to realize that she sponsored a bill to stop CCW, and then after it was passed, she sponsored a bill to reverse CCW.

I've always said - Minnesota is the state where - if something stupid and expensive is proposed, it will be passed into law with almost no hesitation...
Word on the street is that your average twin citians, are eager for geraldo rivera to run for office, all he needs to do is move there, sign a few autographs and he's a shoo-in.

Yet another:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the upcoming votes in public safety regarding gun control.
I ran for this office to represent the people of my district with the principles of individual liberty and limited government. The second amendment to our US constitution assures our rights as private citizens to keep and bear arms for many reasons. I took an oath to uphold the constitution and I take this very seriously. I will never vote to limit the rights of citizens which are part of our constitution.
I would encourage you to come to any of our committee hearings and, if you would like, you will be given an opportunity to testify. It is your right to do so, and all the committee members need to hear from you. Sending an email is good, coming in person is much better.
Thank you again for writing.
Warm regards,
Kathy

I e-mailed Tina Liebling (DFL), my state representative, a very short e-mail asking what her stance was on HF 241 and HF 242, and if she supported them, what her rationale for doing so was, what she expected the bills will accomplish, and how she proposed to measure whether or not they were effective.

No reply.

Looks like the good guys introduced something as well:
https://www.revisor.mn.gov/bin/bldbill.php?bill=H0419.0.html&session=ls88

A bill for an act
1.2relating to public safety; firearms; providing that any new federal law designed
1.3to ban or limit any personal firearm, magazine, accessory, or ammunition or to
1.4require the registration of any firearm or firearm owner shall be unenforceable;
1.5providing for criminal penalties;proposing coding for new law in Minnesota
1.6Statutes, chapter 624.

Golden Gophers: Each letter I have read in this thread tells you what you need to do. Get out to those hearings, and TESTIFY. Bring the crime stats with you. Bring the Stats from Chicago, New York, and the National Crimes stats under the 1994 ban with you. Make sure they understand that this isn't going to make the state more safe.

Let them understand that you won't be lead by cowards.

Get there, speak up, or give up and move out.

Amen.

I've lived in MN for 10 years now, I moved up here from Florida. I am still amazed that the state can be so liberal. There are so many "XXXXX Bans Guns On These Premises" signs that it doesn't even faze me any more.

It's a great state with good people but the politics here are unbeleivable!

This very much worries me as I have said in the Legal section of this forum. I was reading the magazine restriction section of the bill when it mentioned that even tube fed lever guns would be subject to this law. All of them are crazy suggestions but that shocked me the most. Did anyone else see that ridiculous piece?
