Got a brief look at a used Charter Arms concealed hammer snubnose the other day. Looked to have had a fair amount of rounds put through it, and the cylinder was a little less than tight.

I always thought Charter Arms revolvers were about on par with Taurus revolvers, but the gun store guy said 'No, I'd put 'em a notch below Taurus"

He's asking $ 250.....what do you guys think ?

Buy it ? leave it alone ?

They are definitely a cut below Taurus, and if it has had a lot of rounds through it, I would pass on it for $250. You can do better, well, much better. Add $50 to $100 to that and shop around for a used Smith Model 10 or a Ruger GP-100. MUCH better guns. You will be glad you anteed up and bought a better gun. I have a Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Spl. and there is night and day difference between it and the Smiths/Rugers. It fills a role, but shooting it a lot is not it.

A new Charter can be had for $200 dealer price.

I might rate my old made in the 60s Charter about as good as a Taurus but not the newer ones.

i got a .38 with exposed hammer at gun show for 100.00. But i've heard of guys trying to sell there guns for what a gun shop would try and sell them for. Remember fair price is what they want to sell it for and you want to pay. price around and i think you'll find that you can find a better price. Don't fall in love with anything until you've bought it, or else you might overpay.

I've owned three older model Charter Arms revolvers--I still have one. I've owned one older Taurus revolver. I had problems with 3 of the 4. I still have the Charter Arms .22 magnum, but I've haven't fired it enough to form an opinion. I've owned 3 Smith & Wesson's and 2 Colt's with 2" barrel. If you're looking for a snubby for personal protection, then I'd choose a Smith or Colt or Ruger. I don't know anything about the newer model Taurus. Some say the older model Charter Arms were better than the new models.

Pass

I paid a 110 for my used one ten years ago.

I wouldn't pay much more than that now.

Quality they are a notch below. Remeber, these are not gun designed to be shot at the range every Saturday. They are defese guns, not military. Moderate use is fine. But over the long run, they will get loose.

Just don't pay too much and know what you are getting.

I have mine and love it. It sleeps in my glovebox, just in case.

I have one of the original Charter Arms Undercovers (#369) from the original Charter Arms Corp. It is the equal of either Colt or Smith, has sights better than either, and is the most accurate 2" snub I have ever shot. Unfortunately subsequent incarnations of Charter Arms have not been aas good. I also had the the original Bulldog 44, which I used till I loaned to a friend who handloaded. It did not fly apart but was quite stretched out.
