"This will require the expenditure of capital.â€

Yes but whose capital and with or without their approval ?

“We’ve got people living in the shadows of our society, and we’ve got a border patrol that’s overstressed because we’ve got people streaming across,†Bush said. “The system has broken down. ... And I think by legalizing work, we take a lot of pressure off our borders"

Shooting the SOB's would also releive some pressure...but then you dont have the spine to protect our own border since that wouldnt be PC with your Foxy buddy do you ?

and the biggest point of all I saw

"despite opposition from his conservative base."

Hmmmm think someone's palm is getting slicked ?

this link will take you straight to where you can sign the
petition.

Further on why you should oppose it .And you dont have to be racist to understand most of these problems.

"Last summer in Boulder, Colorado, eight American daughters suffered rapes by eight illegal alien Mexicans who fled back to Mexico. All those women were somebody’s daughters and under the age of twenty-two. If Bush’s daughters, Jenna and Barbara, suffered gang rape like the Boulder women, Mrs. Laura Bush would force Mr. Bush to take action. Instead, he and his daughters read about it in the safety of their gated homes and bodyguards"

"Last year, Phoenix, Arizona suffered 57,600 cars stolen by illegal aliens (500,000 illegals in that state) for use in drug smuggling and alien trafficking. If that many cars were stolen daily out of the U.S. Congressional parking lots, we’d see troops on the border within days. "

“Look, whether or not you agree with the solution or not, we have a problem in America when you’ve got 8 million undocumented workers here,â€
So he admits illegal immigration is a 'problem', yet does nothing to stop it. That would be the definition of incompetence, or corruption, or both.

Bush may think he has capital to spend but I doubt he understands the depth of opposition to his amnesty proposal.

He's pushing it into the face of 80% of the US population. Stupidity? 8 X 10 glossies? Debt payment? Doesn't really understand the problem? Doesn't care about the problem since the SS sweeps the area around his ranch?

I hope he is ready for a rootin' tootin' saloon fight.

I don't know where he thinks he has 'capital'. His margin of victory amounts to 120,000 votes in Ohio. Then maybe he's just gonna borrow the 'capital', like a good Republican. Borrow and spend. Democrats tax and spend, Republicans borrow and spend. Same big government, less taxing (for now).

Seriously

Who We Are
The NO MORE AMNESTY petition campaign is sponsored by the FAIR Congressional Task Force, Inc. (FCTF). The FCTF is a non-profit, public interest organization.
The Task Force's purpose is to serve the public social and economic welfare by developing and promoting immigration policies which are consistent with the economic, social and demographic interest of the United States; to restrict illegal immigration to the United States; and to limit legal admissions to reasonable levels.

And what is this supposed to mean?
social and demographic interest. Can you define social and demographic interest for me?

Can you define social and demographic interest for me?
Sure.

It means that if we (the United States) are to survive as a country, we need to maintain one language and one culture (that would be the American culture. You may not be familiar with it, as it is becoming endangered). In order for us to accomplish this, we need to:

1) Protect our borders from illegal crossings.
2) Make English the official language. No ballots in 27 different languages.
3) Require proof of citizenship in order to vote. No proof, no vote.
4) Issue driver's licenses only to citizens, or temporary licenses to foreign nationals who are here legally for a limited time and can prove it.
5) Locate and deport any and all foreign nationals here illegally.

Ok I agree with the above.
But what is the american culture. Please describe that for me. In your own words.

You're only taking pressure off of the productive illegal immigrants which are a small part of the problem. The guest worker program isn't going to allow a high percentage of those currently in the country to stay, or it will be a complete failure. If it's able to significantly releave the overall pressure created by illegal immigration, then it's already failed.

A guest worker program seems like a good idea to me, but only if we're going to get control of the illegal immigration problem. The problem has grown far beyond where just implementing a guest worker program and encouraging immigrants to participate is going to be helpful.

There are far, far too many immigrants here already that are not possitively contributing to our society or economy, and we need to reform our policy in a way that we can make sure the vast majority of those people are forced to leave the country.

H1b visas are very limited in the scope of what type of jobs those people can be entering the country to provide.

Work Visa

Sounds like the simple version would be to expand the work visa, not give amnesty to all of the workers who came over illegally, JMHO

They call them ILLEGALS for a reason...they broke the law!

The immigration problem is as important as the right to bear arms, write
your representatives. I have been a strong supporter of the republican
party for some years however I will change my vote on this issue, I believe
it is that important.

Check out this site. http://www.teamamericapac.org/

Ditto that. If Bush pushes this, and the Republicans acquiesce, not only will I change my registration from Republican (last 35 years) to Independent, but I will actively work to unseat/replace Republicans wherever I can. Matters not who replaces 'em. Might as well get it on.

"U.S. workers cannot or do not want to fill the job."

Yeah, that happens when U.S. companies won't pay a wage that Americans will work for. Walmart can afford to open a new store on an almost weekly basis on this planet but it can't afford to pay an american teenager minimum wage to clean bathrooms or pack boxes?

Our president would rather coddle corporate donors than create jobs for americans.

Make those jobs pay what Americans will work for and then Americans will get ticked off when illegals come into the country and take THEIR jobs. THEN you'll get all the support, funding and muscle you need to close the borders.

I'm willing to pay a little more at the retail level in order to achieve that. And Walmart can open a new store once a month instead.

But what is the american culture. Please describe that for me. In your own words.

Consult the seminal documents of this nation, the beliefs of the Founding Fathers, the traditions and cultures, both secular and religious, that produced those beliefs. Note that these documents were written in English, the core values Judeo-Christian (and, more to the point, inherently Protestant).

Let me be blunt: Importing tens of millions of people from the Third World and not insisting on assimilation is going to do nothing but replicate where these people came from within the borders of the United States, generating an "America" in name only.

Foot dragging or double talk about immigration control is essentially identical to resisting increases in the minimum wage. There will either be reduced profits or inflation. All the rest is background noise.

An argument in defense of the children involved is the most disingenuous of all arguments, a low blow. I would change the law so that someone born in the US is not a citizen unless the parents are here legally and on track to become a citizen, certainly the mother. Actual citizenship of the child would not be conferred until the parent's citizenship was finalized. That's oversimplified, because a parent could die first, but the idea should be explored.

Honestly answer the question

Not what i asked. I asked in "your own words " describe american culture. Not reference something written by atheists deists, unitarians, protestants, drunks, whoremongers and slave holders 200+ years ago.

As far as assimilation goes. Everyone assimilates. The chinese did the irish, germans poles. Did you know 2nd largest group of polish speaking people in the world is in chicago? Are we forced to speak polish in chicago?

In your own words please describe American Culture.

Restricting citizenship to children born here of parents here legally is an idea whose time has arrived.

Someone will have to tell the judges, however, that non-citizens should not be qualified for public benefits. We have a problem there.

Frankly, I can't see this Administration being of much help on either front.

why_me:

Everyone assimilates? Surely you jest? Maybe, in the past, most immigrants assimilated. That is no longer the case. Not around here, anyway. Naturalized citizens are required to have a basic fluency in English. Perhaps we should just administer a basic English competency test to people at random and see how they fare? I can assure you that a LOT of people in Los Angeles would fail that one.

I think, why_me, you need to ask yourself what values and principles define what you cherish about America. Then ask yourself where those values and principles came from. It's not really that long a list. Start with criminal and civil law, then contracts, codes of business practice, freedom of inquiry, religious freedom, openess to the scientific method...

When I said a lot of this was "Protestant" in origin, I didn't mean everyone has to be a Protestant. For the record, I wasn't raised as a Protestant. But I do think that what we consider "American" implies the absorption of many Protestant notions along with secular ones. You may disagree. Persuade me otherwise.

Still evading the question

I asked you to describe american culture "in your own words"

Every "town" has shrunk. Whether it be china town in san francisco or andersonville in chicago or little italy in new york they have gotten smaller as the generations assimilated.

Again simple question. Can you answer it honestly?

I will work my hardest to undo the republicans if they go along with this. What Bush is proposing is treason in my opinion. He deserves to be impeached or at least swept from power with any of his cronies who go along with this amnesty bull????.

We really need to start pushing the mexicans back forcefully and making sure they dont return. I think that is a higher priority than dealing with social security or tax reform.

why_me, your question "Describe American culture in your own words" is not a simple question, as you say.

Can you describe any culture to me? Take your pick. Your response will give everyone some idea how you want the question answered.

It is a very difficult thing to do. Describing one culture in sufficient terms as to make it distinguisable from other cultures is very difficult.
