Is there any danger that too many press checks could push the head into
the cartridge and result in too much pressure being generated and well you
know, a ka-boom?
 
Doesn't seem likely, since the cartridge is being basically pulled out of the chamber and then put back in. No contact with the feed ramp.

A bit of bullet set back caused by repeatedly chambering a cartridge from the magazine, say 1/10 of an inch, isn't a problem unless you're running loads right on the edge of maximum. I normally save such rounds for practice, but I've never had a problem with them.

Disclaimer: this applies to my handloads only. Any factory load with significant setback gets discarded.
 
+1 for Larry. Racking and feeding from the magazine can cause cumulative set-back. Press check? no.
