First, I didn't know jungle carbines came in 308, but he says he has one.

What is:
A) A GREAT price (as in you gotta buy it at that price)
B) A poor price (as in that's a little too much to pay)

Thanks

A 308 Jungle Carbine will be an RFI (Royal Factory Ishapore) model and not an English model. The RFI factory made these well after the war and chambered or rechambered them to 308 for ease of shooting. They are only shooters and not collector pieces. In great condition they run between $250-$350. Any more will be be approaching a WWII dated England made Jungle Carbine price. They are fun shooters though, you can also pick up a nice RFI bayonet for about $40-$50 that would go well with it.

Dollars to doughnuts what he has is a Gibbs Quest Extreme II carbine which are modeled after the original jungle carbine but are a commercial reproduction.

I have no personal experience with these, but I've read enough dodgy reports that I haven't bought a nicked example locally that is listed at $320

I agree with RW. There was no such thing as a .308 Jungle Carbine. Since there were very few SMLEs even built in .308, the are chances are about 99% that that rifle was converted to .308 from .303. In addition, MOST of the Jungle carbines that I find aren't even originals, they're earlier model SMLEs that were cut down so I'd say that most likely that rifle was a modified SMLE that was cut down to look like a jungle carbine AND also converted from .303 to .308. It's only value is as a shooter, it has no collector value. If I could shoot it and if it was a good shooter and if it's in good condition I might pay up to $250 for it, otherwise I don't think I'd even bother with it.

RFI in India made more than a few rifles in 308 based on the Enfield design. They are far more plentiful than Gibbs rifles and far cheaper. The No2A1? was based on the No1 MkIII design and the No7 was based on the No5 Jungle Carbine. Though neither is identical to the parent rifle.

They were generally not converted Enfields. They were new production rifles made by RFI in India. They are decent shooters and neat rifles but are of little to no collectible value. I used to own the Jungle Carbine. Handy little thing but LOUD.

If however it is a Gibbs, that would be rareish, and they only want $250 for it, buy it.

Dr_2_B if you are interested in an 1966 Ishapore No2A1 .308 I will be putting mine up for sale soon. PM me and maybe we can make a deal.

I have owned a Gibbs "No. 7 Jungle Carbine" for years. They are Enfield Ishapore 2a's with cut down stocks and barrels and No.5 type flash suppressors added. Good solid rifles, one that will be passed on to one of the grand kids. Here is a link with info Gibbs

Very cool, I lusted after those as a youngin.

However, please note:

The following are past production rifles and carbines Gibbs Rifle Company, Inc. manufactured up until 2004. Please note that these rifles are NO LONGER in production and NO LONGER in stock. We DO NOT have parts or accessories for these firearms.
