Local shop has had a late-seventies vintage Smith M64 .38 Spcl. on the shelf for a while now. Three-inch HB, round-butt, box and papers, never fired. So more or less NIB. They want four hundred. Seems way high. What do you folks think? Thank you.

I have one matching those specifications, don't know about the year but it doesn't have a lock, excellent condition, paid $325 for it less than three months ago, private seller.

I bought a 2" 99% in the old metal cornered blue box for $300 about 6 months ago. Thought that was fair for seller and buyer. That was in Texas though, don't know what it would bring elsewhere.

This, IMO, is one of those guns that even though the price is a bit high is so popular with some people that $400 is not going to deter them from buying it. If it were a 4" I'd say they were about $100 too high but the 3" versions have a real following, almost cult like. I personally am one of those people that think the 3" K frames are perfect in size and therefore would pay $400 for an absolute perfect example if I were in the market for one.

If it were my gun and I was trying to sell it at a gun show I know I would be asking $400 for it.

How about 4" tapered barrel M64?

Would it go for about $300? Got one I might sell at a show in a few months.
