The local Classified paper has the following ad

Enfield British .303:
Enfield Rifle British .303 SMLE No4 MK1 - flash suppressor, bayonette, quick detach weaver scope mount, 2 extra magazine boxes, firing pin tool, adj micro rear sight, sling - $255

Also listed

1650 rounds of British .303 ammo for $ 350

Is this a good buy assuming good condintion ?

What about the ammo is it a good price ?

Thanks for the input

First a No 4 does not have a flash suppressor, a No 5 does. Also a No 4 is not a true SMLE, a No 1 is. Depending on what it is and how good condition is $255 may be a good price depending on where you live. On the ammo it depends on what it is, if it is POF I probably would not buy it unless I could try some first. Most of the POF thats out there is garbage, and I sure would not want to end up with 1650 rounds of garbage. I have found a little bit of the POF that was not bad but its a crap shoot.

It may be possible the ad has listed the rifle incorrectly. If it does have the flash suppressor it could be a No 5 jungle carbine. For $255 that's a deal UNLESS the scope mount has altered the rifle...such as drilling and tapping. If the mount is a clamp on or otherwise did not alter the rifle then no biggie. Below is a link which shows the difference between the No 4 and No 5. I'd go check it out. I have found many gems simply because the seller didn't know what he had. As far as the ammo, what Jeff said is correct. The POF Pakistani Ordnance Factory ammo is crap. Most surplus .303 is mediocre anymore but try to wheel and deal. You can always sell it if you are not happy with it.
