While shooting my Savage today at the range I noticed when I ejected a round of factory ammo (Federal Blue Box 150gr SP 308 win) that the primer was missing...I looked and it was down in the magazine. Primer looked normal but I could just push it right back into the case and then it would fall right back out when I tipped the case over.

Anyone ever have a primer come loose after shooting a cartridge and have it fall out? :uhoh:

factory ammo- Never happened to me. This is not normal as you know. Are there any other pressure signs? Was the bolt hard to open? If more than one, contact maker of ammo.

Never heard of it before either out of factory ammo. Guess all factory ammo can be perfect though. Sounds like and out of spec primer to me. Try fitting a spent primer in there with your fingers to see if it is the case or primer.

I have been shooting and reloading for close to 45 years now and only have seen that happen with ammo loaded so many times until the primer pocket has worn out from overuse.. If that was a new factory round and if you still have the box with the loat number on it, then I would call Federal tomorrow morning. They should replace that box of ammo for you.

For QC purposes, the manufacturer should be notified of lot number as loadedround suggests.

I'm not so sure about a free box of ammo. If they offer it you should take it, but I wouldn't expect a free box just for send a notice to the QC department.

Do you still have any of the loaded ammo left? I'd dissect one myself, and offer to send the rest back to the maker. The ammo is only worth what the projectile and primer are worth if the brass is in fact poor.

Last, PLEASE post here your results so when the next poor fellow has the same problem he will know what's and why's surround HIS issues.

My thoughts also........... a simple email will do.
