I normally use CCI Small Pistol Primers, and Winchest Small Pistol Primers for my 9mm and 38Spl loads. Today, on a whim, I stopped at the gun shop from hades, and went inside. He actually had had a full 1000 count box of Federal #100 Small Pistol Primers on the reloading shelf. Box looked a little old, but everything iside was fine. $25 out the door. Question, can anyone who has used all three of these tell if there is any noticable performance with the #100s?
I was sure glad to find them, even if he did have them hiding on a shelf somewhere all this time...

I normally use W-W primers in my two Dillon's since they feed so well. However I have used Federal primers on many occasions and have never had a problem with them even after my many years of reloading. You should be able to use them interchangably with both of your CCI and W-W loads unless you're loading at max, then you will have to back off at least 5% and work back up. You may receive posts regarding hard and soft primer cups, but I doubt if you could tell the differerence unless you have a firearm with a very soft hammer blow. Good shooting. :)

Hello, for the question primers, federal are the best. I have used them for 10 years and they are most powerful. I use to shooting of competition and the federals are more to tend and easiest to make leave when you do not want too pressure on the trigger. By order preferably here my personal choice. Federal, Winchester, CCI, I hope that will help you, good shooting.
25 dollars for a box is ok according to me. Here in Canada it's very hard to find Federal primer, you know what, i heard than the army took 98 % of all the production!! Is it true???? I don't know.

Armoredman,

You can just use them like you did the other brands. Federals are my first choice in .38 Special. You made a good buy in this market, and you got some good primers.

Hope this helps.

If you don't want them, I'll do you a favor and take them off your hands even though they are Federals.
I've heard those federal primers that will light with 13- pound CZ hammersprings may not be safe, but I'll take the risk for you. Call, email, whatever.

I have Federal, Winchester, CCI and Wolf primers. All work well, all go bang when I pull the trigger. Like said above, Federal primers are preferred by competition shooters because of the light springs they use in their guns. I like Winchester primers best but I think that's more out of habit than any other reason.
