I recently had dillon warranty tubes for me, should I use a cleaning patch and break cleaner to be certain any oil is removed from the tubes before use?
Had a pick-up tube show up with a sliver of aluminum in it. Probably from machining. I do run a patch soaked in alcohol for new tubes and for periodic cleaning, but have not noticed any oil inside.
Every time I swap my Dillon 550 primer tubes from large to small or back, I saturate both ends of an ear swab with isopropyl alcohol and push it through the tube. I also do the same thing with the primer pick up tubes. I push the swabs through the tubes with the plastic primer follower rod.
I also saturate a .22 caliber cleaning patch with isopropyl alcohol and push it down the primer housing tube. But the primer housing tube does not seem to get fouled with priming compound very much.
Been using a 550 since 82. Never occurred to me the primer tubes and or pick up tubes needed cleaning …………., replace the tips occasionally but never ram anything thru the tubes.
