I was thinking of buying a couple of "Pro Mag" magazines for my SW 4506. Does anybody here have any experience with this brand? Are they of decent quality? Thanks.

I've got one Pro Mag for my Kel Tec P32 and it works fine. My experience with Pro Mags is limited but I've also heard of a lot of guys who have had problems on different boards.

I carry 3 ProMag 8 round .45 mags mags that I got from CDNN several years ago with me when I'm playing cop.

Ive never had a FTF and have never had any problems whatsoever. They look like the factory Sig mags, no difference other than the extra 1 capacity.

I really think it depends on the brand of gun in which you use them. I've heard horror stories that have scared many away.

I've heard people say, "I'll never buy anything but factory mags," not knowing that Mec-Gar and Pro-Mag have been making factory mags for many guns for years -- under the gunmaker's brand name.

Pro-Mag seems to have been one of EAA OEM mag makers for a number of years -- so they make "factory" quality mags in at least some cases. I think they made them for CZ, too. (Mec-Gar is making all of CZ's new mags, however.)

I've had great success with Pro-Mags in CZs, Witnesses, a S&W 669, a Beretta 92, amd a S&W 5906.

Although they were a problem at first, I was able to make some very inexpensive mags for the P-210-6 work fine in that gun. (I had to reshape the follower, which was metal.)

Mag springs in Pro-Mags seems to die more quickly than other factory mags, and their plastic base plates (used only on some models) aren't very durable. They'll replace the base plates for you, without questions.

Quality control seems to be erratic -- with some mags working beautifully, and some not working at all. But I think this was more true of older mags than their newer production.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy more. And I've found that Pro-Mag is very good about making it "right," if you have a problem.

Harley:

I had a 4506, and also a couple ProMag 8-round mags. They were the only way I could make the 4506 fail. Using factory mags, it was utterly reliable, even filthy dirty.

I now carry either a Kimber ProCarry or BHP, and neither of them has a ProMag with it. Mec-Gar, yes! ProMag, no!

My limited experiance with Pro-Mags are that they can be functional range mags but I'd never trust my life with one unless I've never had an issue with that particular mag in that particular gun and have put a lot of rounds through it.

I have Pro Mags for my Sig 228 that have worked fine.

I had 1 FTF last Saturday but I think that was due to a light charge.

I did notice the Springs do weaken quickly

I have 6 or 7 for my Sig 229 9mm and have never had a problem of any kind. I did replace the springs.

Sometime slide doesn't stay back on the last round w/ a buudy's Promag for his Beretta Elite.....$700 gun w/ $15 magazine=:banghead:

Thanks for the responses. I think I got a good deal (12 bucks a piece incl. shipping) and so I bought a couple of them on Ebay.

I wonder who's making the CZ-100 magazines. Mec-Gar doesn't sell any, and the Pro-Mag CZ-100 magazines are not like factory mags.

You'll find that in most cases when Mec-Gar becomes the only provider of OEM mags for a gun maker, they quit selling them under their own brand.
If the gunmaker continues to use OTHER suppliers, Mec-Gar continues to sell their own versions, too.

That is the case with a number of guns, most recently CZ and SIG.

That's why you can't get a SIG or CZ (new production) mag from Mec-Gar. I suspect its true of several other gun lines, too. There are plenty in the pipeline, however.
