Regular dating sites have plenty of useless questions. For example: "Favorite eye color? Rate the importance." They do not have useful open-ended questions, like "Summarize your ethical predicates for making decisions." If you were on a dating site, what questions/matching categories would you want there that are not present on existing sites?

The question is serious.

My wife and I met on a dating service, and I called her on her posted like for motorcycles, as I had a buddy who was a big motorcycle man. Turns out she wasn't into bikes, but we did click, and the rest is history. She wasn't into guns when we met, but boy howdy, she is now!

Maybe they should ask your stand on a variety of issues ie:

Acme Dating! Here are some questions that will help us match you with the man/woman of your dreams! How do you feel about...

Abortion?
Gay marriage?
Gun control?
Stem cell research?
War in Iraq?
etc..

"You aren't into Glocks are you?"

"yes"- She's outta here.:(

"Are you into 1911A1's, M1 Garands, and leverguns?"

"yes"- This one gets a response.:D

"Are you into CAS/CMSA (mounted) shooting?"

"yes"- This one gets a response because she's also into horses.:D

And the proper question isn't "are you a Democrat or a Republican?"... it's "are you Liberal or Conservative?".

If I could find a pro-RKBA chick in the DPRK my head would probably explode. Have not met a chick yet that was ever into guns or would ever even discuss them...friends always end up scuttling me too. Its really depressing.

But I never bring the subject up, but dammit it always creeps up..I am not into much else other than, guns and computers for my hobbies, I know how to dance and can be romantic ...sometimes...not really fond of crowds or large amounts of loud noises (concerts).

Very sad, My friends and I all love to shoot and talk about guns probably a little too much. I have taken at least 7 women shooting, 4 liked it and 2 are getting their own guns, and these are women like the one who cuts my hair, very girly girls from a suburban area and they still went 6-1 in favor and I'll keep counting if I get anymore to shoot. I feel bad for you man, I'm in IL, by the city, ALOT of people here are anti or see no point. I call them a word I learned on here, bliss-ninnies!

Actually, aside from being able to dance (and probably looking better than I do :p) SoCal could pretty much be my twin. The girls here... not so much into the whole libertarian thing. Plenty else wrong with 'em too but I'll leave it at that. :neener:

I dunno about an RKBA-centric dating site, but I do know that one of my major peeves with OkCupid is the massive amount of completely frivolous match questions which do nothing as far as evaluating someone's character.

I'd say that a few questions that lead twards the persons political leanings, and that RKBA should be worked into it...

but then again, from what I gather, the people on these sites all look like either Fabio or Elle McPherson, and are all rich beyond belief, and are perfect in every way, so what is to say that they'd be even remotely honest about THIS either...

My suspicion is that the true problem with dating sites is that there's too many; were the various databases combined it would increase the probability of finding a good match nearby. Until one or two achieve complete dominance, it's going to be piecemeal and based on luck.

I used to keep an add on one of those sites until they started charging. I used to tell my stuff- cowboy type, guns, horses, deer hunting- straight up. Anybody who didn't like it didn't have to respond. I got responses too... they ranged from semi-positive to "that's great; so do I". But if I ever had a "dream girl", I never met her on there.

I have an idea that might address Wes Janson's concern. Would like to figure out how I might serve both RKBA and its devotees. After all, Lautenberg insists that we only date reasonable, like-minded people or else!

I just had this conversation with a friend who is using a few of these sites (he's 50 and recently divorced). Our conclusion was that the social dynamic these sites create is 180 degrees from common human interaction.

When you meet someone for the first time that you find attractive you want to know more about them, find out if you like their sense of humor, etc. And if you are really interested, you probably are willing to overlook some minor disagreement and not let it get in the way of the start of a relationship.

On-line the dynamic is reversed. People use the description fields, Q&A, etc. as filtering mechanisms. I would guess most folks dismiss someone because they hold some view that they disagree with (even if it is not central to their views), as presumably RKBA would be for most here. And that person, so easily dismissed in the on-line context, may very well be someone they would develop a relationship with if the meeting were "FTF."

For example, perhaps they support the 2nd Amendment, but really couldn't care less about firearms generally. Maybe they grew up on a farm where a rifle is a tool for killing deer and coyotes, like a combine is a tool for harvesting. No more important, no less important. Just there, and not a hobby.

As an aside, I NEVER thought I would see this thread, let alone comment.

"from what I gather, the people on these sites all look like either Fabio or Elle McPherson, and are all rich beyond belief, and are perfect in every way, so what is to say that they'd be even remotely honest about THIS either..."
Unlike the others, I AM perfect.

I look like a combination of Fabio, Errol Flynn, Carry Grant, and John Wayne. I have the voice of Flynn, Grant, and Wayne simultaneously - when I have a sore throat, I sound like Clint Eastwood. On a bad hair day, I look like Yul Brynner. If I say so myself, I look like a Greek God... without the excess body fat and beards, that is.

I am a multi-billionaire thirty times over. I danced with Queen Elizabeth (although she kicked me in the shin when I broke her big toe while doing a tactical roll and spraying the guards with OC...).

Oh. A dating site which allowed you to summarize you weltanschauung/paradigms would be great, but I don't think I could stay honest for too long... I'd feel obliged to post the picture of that Michael-Moore-sized guy in fatigues with a SAW, and mention my SpecOps experience.

What Questions/Categories

Well, here's a topic out of the blue!

I've never been to a dating site, so I don't know what questions they have.

I'll throw out some ideas anyway. Who knows, I might propose something that's not completely lame!

I'm not a big fan of "multiple guess" questions. My leaning is more toward one-or-two-word answers and the occasional short essay.

Reminds me of that old Steven Wright joke.
She said she was a nymphomaniac, but that she only got turned on by Jewish cowboys. I said "Howdy, ma'am. My name is Bucky Goldstein."

Well, if you're trying to "sneak up" on the issue, we could run a study to see which answers to innocuous questions significantly correlate with classical American values.

Unfortunately, all the research into that question is performed by political hacks out of Johns Hopkins, and the correllatives appear to be "diminished IQ" and "enlarged brow ridge". :fire:
