This was closed as a drive by, but I hereby resubmit it with actual commentary:

In my opinion, getting these types of groups interested in gun ownership groups, rather than the more traditional right-of-center groups, is the key to expanding gun rights. Preaching to the choir does not expand our base; reaching out to new groups does. I would argue that many libertarian-leaning liberals (e.g. those opposed to expanding the warrant-less law enforcement email surveillance) are our natural allies if we can keep the idea of the importance of personal liberty to the fore.

I also note that the Guardian has observed a positive response from LGBT groups:

Some are members of calguns.net.

This is a voter base that Trump has reached out to that the GOP has largely shunned.

I take as many new shooters to the range as possible provided they are reasonably intelligent and responsible people. In order to truly defend the 2nd amendment, we need all subsets of society to see responsible firearm usage and in turn adopt it as their own. The second amendment is not just for old white me (despite it being written by them!)

The formal membership of Pink Pistols has quadrupled.

Informal membership was always open to anyone sympathetic to the cause and is probaly larger than formal membership.

Glad you resubmitted roscoe. It's a great article. We can definitely use some positive voices from those typically pandered to from the left.

Thanks, roscoe. Gun rights should not be a left/right issue. If you look at it from a logical/practical sense, gun control makes very little sense from anyone's perspective.

Reminder: you don't need to be gay to join Pink Pistols, and don't need to be Jewish to join JPFO. Don't need to be conservative to join any group, just please support our constitution.

Martin Niemöller had many versions of his famous quote "first they came for..." It is good to wake up before you are the only ones left.

The moral is to stick up for others even if you are not exactly like them. It seems the wake up call was loud and clear for some. The Bill of rights is for all equally. The 2nd Amendment is the guarantee when court and government fails to respect those rights. The government in this case failed us by protecting those who openly pledged war against Americans. It also failed those that expected police protection. The second Ammendment ensures that we don't have to wait for the government to bring our toe tag. The enemies of Americans, regardless of how you identify, are those that want to disarm and make you think they will protect you when its time. They are not disarming so they don't even believe what they're selling. Glad the lgtb population sees who really hates them.

We could do worse than adopting a variation of the Gay Rights slogan, something like: "We are here, we are armed, and we aren't going to be disarmed!"

I like the Pink Pistols. They are serious about the the Second Amendment.

The lawsuit resulting in the shall issue ruling in DC was brought forth by the Pink Pistols and one of their members.

The only problem is that they all vote Democrat.

The most prominent face of the LGBT community right now is Caitlyn Jenner.

She has stated she is Republican several time and would not vote for Hillary.

On her series, there was a good 2 or 3 episodes that were largely showing her defending the GOP as not being anti LGBT to her other Trans friends as they toured the country raises awareness for their cause.

I'm one of those dots on the map, but I've been offering free training to people for the past 20 years believing that the more people I train how to shoot the more people understand the truth about gun ownership, use and owners. I don't care if you're purple or plaid or who you go home to is purple or plaid as long as I can help you be safe to get there and you understand that what Antis say about all of us is intended to pull the wool over your eyes.

Not necessarily, though the general attitude of many people on the right tends to drive them that way.

Saw this on another forum, interesting perspective. Hes certainly not the average liberal or left leaning gay. When mentioned on a different forum, a number of people knew of him and liked hearing his stuff.

Tam had a good blog post about a la carte politics, and not buying into the usual right/left or liberal/conservative party line package deal.

That's very admirable of you.

This.
You'd be surprised how open-minded (maybe hesitant, but willing to listen) people can be if you don't belt them across the face with a bunch of talk about how the "liberals is a'ruinin' the country" and whatever else you have rattling around your head.

You can think those things, but just hold your tongue a little bit. Try loading magazines for your 10/22 and letting someone shoot them at cans or a steel swinging target instead. A rimfire rifle, especially the 10/22, has been an unbelievable tool for introducing people who hold no strong opinions or even mild antis to our point of view. Some of them now own their own guns (most of them have started with 10/22's).

Even if they do still vote left, they'll eventually vote for people on the left who don't push horrid policy when it comes to guns.

You literally have nothing to lose by introducing any decent, law-abiding type person to shooting - regardless of what they think, who their partner is, or how they vote.

Just like here, more people would rather dash any hope for success by insisting that anyone that doesn't already agree with them "enough" isn't worth the time to win over so they'd rather cast stones.

The only problem is that they all vote Democrat.

When that was posted at Volokh Conspiracy, a poster responded that of voters identified as gay, 30% said they were Republican. 70% is a lot but not all. Of course Democratis like to claim all.

It's dangerous to think like a one issue voter. Many people that own firearms may vote for a variety of issues besides the 2nd Amendment. Although the 2nd is most important to me others may not see it that way.

As a relatively non-religious person, I've said this for a long time, but usually get clobbered by the religionists: Conservatives would be smart if they stayed away from hot-button religious/moral issues.

Yeah, most (or all?) laws are based on an underlying moral fabric, but specific issues on which even the religionist groups disagree internally should be set aside in terms of "the good of the country" as a whole.

I also use politicians' stances on the second amendment as a litmus test of their devotion to "'the good of the country' as a whole" and my voting is strongly colored by that. Heck, I even disagree with the NRA on some things, just as you might disagree with specific tenets or policies of your own church, but I'm not going to refuse to renew my membership* on the basis of one of their positions.

*Actually, I'm a Life Member anyhow, from long before the attempts to paint them as a terrorist organization... :fire:

I completely agree Terry.

I also find it a bit odd for the GOP to promote 'less government intrusion'....except for issues like this.

Good to see something positive on the times. I was just in NYC and had the chance to attend the pride parade. There was a large amount of anti-gun sentiment, and gays against guns was of course the big group there with all the media attention. Not sure where they came from as I had only been familiar with pro-gun groups like the pink pistols. I figure the community at large is just going along with what their party's stance has been, which was naturally leveraged after the targeted attack in Orlando.

It's disappointing to us because it seems to go against their own interests. We know minority groups are dis-proportionally targeted for violence, so they should be learning how to protect themselves. But when aligned with one group (Democrat) or another they are bound to get sucked up in the propaganda. It doesn't help that the other party, republicans, are just as hypocritical when they argue for less government interference in liberties and economy but not on moral issues or lifestyle choices.
