Problem Caused by my New Mosin Nagant

I am already thinking I want all the variants

This is EXACTLY how it starts. I started with a few 91/30's. Then my buddy brought a M38 to the range. Dang, had to have some of those too. Then I decided to get a few M44s while the prices were still reasonable. At this point I'm into double digits and NOW I'm starting to look at the Finn's. It's an awful addiction. I won't even mention the number of 7.62x54r spam can's stacked in the ammo closet. I mean, they gotta eat, right?

I know of some folks with large collections who have gun vaults built into their basements - secure rooms rather than just safes.

I have a pretty rough 1945 M44 and I just love to beat the crap out of it- so fun to shoot- and the bayonet is just neat-o! Been trying to expand the herd but every time a nice one comes my way I end up trading to a friend... The second big problem is safe capacity for collecting rifles. :(

Now here is the problem: did you notice I said "It is my first Mosin Nagant?" I am already thinking I want all the variants and maybe some other milsurp rifles. Even if I don't like shooting them (which I will), I love the history that lives in my hands when I hold it (Yeah. Yeah. I know, I am waxing both melodramatic and overly parenthetical, but I can't help it.

What shall I do?

Two letters, C and R. :neener:

Well I was doing okay untill I opened this thread. Now I'm getting the shakes, if this keeps up I'll have to add another to the pack. I knew I shouldn't have opened this one.

Count your blessings -- it could be much worse. At least you're addicted to one of the cheapest rifles around, that fires one of the cheapest cartridges around. Even the highest-end sniper Nagants are what, 6 or 700 bucks?

At worst, your condition might cause a bit of anxiety and some minor conflict with people in your life who don't understand your level of interest in this item. There are people (probably many on this site) who actually have real, life-affecting problems with gun buying.

There are probably dudes on this site who take out payday loans and/or mortgage their house to be able to afford their next gun purchases. Hell, there are probably some guys on here who have gotten a divorce partly or largely due to guy buying addiction.

A minor Mosin addiction, if contained, is something you can live and function with. The problem is with keeping it from spreading to an Enfield addiction, and then to a Garand addiction, and then to an M-14 addiction, and then to crazy high-end long range precision addiction or something like that which can be truly life-wrecking.

I hope for your sake that this is being said out of observation and not experience.....

I love my Mosin Nagant, but so far just have one, an excellent 1943 Izhevsk M91/30. I don't have any room for more, though I want an M38. Mosinitis is an incurable disease, and ultimately is terminal for your safe and wallet.

Well, I will say this... it really isn't an issue as long as your earning capacity increases as fast or faster than your gun buying urges. It's when the urges start to outrun the paychecks that it becomes a problem!

Unfortunately for a lot of guys, the urges seem to increase correspondingly with the income. Once you start making more, your tastes just get that much more expensive. ;)

I agree with the idea to just build a safe room for them. If you already have a basement you are looking at a couple of pallets of masonry block, mortar mix, sand, and a steel door and frame. Sell it to the wife as a tornado shelter and then build it twice as big as you think it needs to be because you WILL run out of space. Especially when you start reloading.

I hear that. I only have two Mosins, one 1928 Izzy unmolested and a 1932 Izzy that has all the mechanical stuff done and is awaiting stock upgrade. Having just had a TASTE of long range stuff I'm in serious danger of loosing my future earning potential on some very precise and expensive new friends. Luckily I live in the mountains where the sight lines are short, it takes a pretty good drive to see long distances so for now I feed my urges with ever increasing 22LR challenges, and I loves me some 22LR.
