I took my M16A4 clone out to the range yesterday, and just got done cleaning it this morning.

I noticed that the rear lense of my TA31 has what appear to be metal shavings on the inside of the glass. I am 99% sure they were not there when I got to the range yesterday. I can't see them when looking through the scope and I don't think they affect performance in any way, but I still don't think they should be there. I suspect a trip back to Trijicon is in its future. Has this ever happened to anyone?

Well, I don't know if I have the worlds worst luck with these things or what.

My TA31 is back at Trijicon right now hopefully getting worked on for the issue mentioned above.

My brand new TA11 arrived in the mail on Friday and I hit the range today. All is good except for the following. When looking from a relatively dark area to a relatively light area (i.e., chevron not lit much), the chevron appears normal. However, when looking from a light area to a relatively dark area (chevron is lit/in contrast to the field of view), it appears that not all of the chevron is lighting up. The bottom corners are black against a light background. It looks a little like this:

I don't think this is normal since my TA31 didn't look like this. Should I send it back?

It isn't normal. I've heard of it once before several years ago when someone had a similar problem with a donut on a TA31 on AR15.com. That user sent it back to Trijicon and they fixed it.

What source are you using to purchase these ACOG's?
A good question. ACOG's dont seem to be known for having issues like you are seeing, especially not as a manufacturer's defect. Wonder if someone is selling you refurbished (and poorly refurbished at that), or is seeling off returnds with relatively minor defects, thinking no one will notice/complain?

Just seems odd to get two messed up scopes in a row like that, especially from a company with such a stellar rep in all regards.Course, as is always said, EVERYONE makes a lemon now and then, and lets them slip thru into circulaton, so it is certainly possible you just hit the bad luck lottery and beat the 1:1,000,000 or so odds. Starnger things have certainly happened.

I agree that I hope these problems get made right for you, 100% free of charge. In fact, with 2 "duds" in a row, I'd be expecting more than just 2 repairs/replacements. I'd be expecting a partail refund, or decent credit towards a futuer purchase with them, or something. I wouldnt think that is asking too much, and would certainly show me "good faith", and would probly make the difference in them keeping me as a customer, or loosing me as a customer.

I actually bought them from two different dealers. The first was off of gunbroker from a company in PA called "Keifer's Guns". Like I said, I didn't notice a problem with that one till about ~1 year after purchase, so I decided to go through Trijicon for the fix.

The second one I bought from Rainier Arms. http://www.rainierarms.com/ I have placed several orders from them in the past for various odd and ends and have never had a problem, and overall they seem to have a good rep as a dealer from what I can tell. Since I *just* bought this one (got it in the mail Friday, noticed the problem as soon as I got it out in the sunlight Saturday) I plan to contact the seller, and see if they will simply exchange it for another one. I don't think that is an unreasonable request, and think it would be faster than waiting on factory work from Trijicon (I've yet to hear anything from them about my first scope that arrived there).

Nothing about the packaging of either one led me to believe they were anything other than factory packaged at Trijicon, though I guess anything is possible. Both came with all the accessories listed on the Trijicon website. etc.

I got my TA31 back from Trijicon just now. The invoice says they performed the following work:

-Replaced windage/elevation adjusters
-Cleaned spherical seat
-Replaced fiber housing - cosmetic issues
-Cleaned internal surfaces
-Replaced ACOG Adj. Caps

There are indeed new caps and a new fiber tube installed. The new tube does look clearer.

I don't see any stuff inside the housing right now either. I'll mount it up to the rifle tonight.

So far all looks good, and they replaced some parts that I didn't even ask them to.
