If you purchased the green Howard Leight Impact Sports electronic ear muffs sometime from Nov. to now you should check your message center at Amazon for a safety alert to discontinue use and expect a refund.

Do communicate with customer service internal to Amazon and paste your order number in the message if you're uncomfortable responding to an email. That's what I did and received the following confirmation of the problem.

Den:Thanks.
I can confirm here that the email is from Amazon.
In this case, no need for you to return it and don't use the item again. Within the next week, Amazon will apply a balance for the purchase price to Your Account.

I asked if the muffs were counterfeit and "Den" didn't know what the problem was. He did indicate that there was no investigation indicated.

I bought 2 pair of these and opened one and used them. While they seem fine, I'll dispose of both pair.

I've sent a message to Howard Leight about these since there's no recall on their website or the fed Consumer Products page.

Just checked my Impact Pro ordered off Amazon. Leaf springs. Whew!

Were these actually stocked and sold by Amazon? Or sold by a third party.

Being discussed on other fora. Issue w counterfeits.

Tell is the battery springs.
Coil springs are knockoffs. Leaf springs are legit.

Thanks for the tip! Mine are leaf springs. I purchased mine during the time period in question.

What a coincidence. I just got a pair last week. They have the leaf springs, though. They seem to work pretty well, so I'm glad I get to keep them.

Springs are where, battery compartment?

I bought some April 2016, Sold by: Amazon.com LLC. Looks like I'm clear but I'll check them when I get a chance.

Edit: hso thanks.

May of 2016 so we should be good. Have to love Amazon, Kathy just goes into her account and there is everything we have bought.

Ron

If it is true that the units with the leaf springs are the genuine article, then mine are original. Here's a photo and corresponding radiograph of my earmuffs (for interest):

"So, what's the problem with the knockoffs? Did I miss it somewhere?"

Could be that the made in China knockoffs amplify the sound of a gunshot.

Amazon knows they sold counterfeits and know their obligation is to refund the money and put out the warning, whether they perform the same or not.

:cool:radiograph Odd Job!
Just got my pair from Amazon today, leaf springs so hopefully they are the real Item.
I noticed when I ordered they where about $66 but some sellers were offering them for around $20 (new).
Makes me wonder if those sellers are selling the Counterfeit ones.
I don't know about the fakes but
1. They are not what you paid for if you paid full price
2. Possible quality issues
3. Most important - They are Counterfeit, might be ok otherwise if they were sold as SuperbangXYZ protectors but not when you claim they are Howard Leight and sell them as such..
