Prone position with AR 15 and 30 round mags

I don’t disagree with anything you said. I do think, because I can do it myself, that with enough practice you can do just as well from kneeling. It’s also faster to get in to and out of compared to prone and requires no change in mag size for a stable platform. Prone imo is for longer ranges when you have fewer shots.

I also believe they if you have to get to prone to hit your target you’re probably better off disengaging and ****.
I agree with this. I have made several long shots kneeling. While prone may work in some situations I have never been in one either in combat or hunting. Bare hilltops are very unusual to me.

As others have mentioned, either invest in some 20’s for shooting prone, or dig a hole in front of you for the 30’s to extend into. :D

My all-around magazines are 20’s (there is a 20-round PMAG in my HD carbine right now), though I have plenty of 30’s as well.

I also preferred 20’s when I had a 7.62x39mm AK; the 20-round Hungarian mags were much handier than the 30’s.

And if you’re on a bare hilltop you already “done messed up”

My go to has a 40 in it, because if i have to grab in a hurry, I will probably not have a lot of time for the PC, mag bag, etc. However, my most used training mag is a 20 round MagPul. it works great. Longest I have engaged with my AR is 200 yards, standing. The BREN 2 MS 7.62x39mm 11 inch pistol I have to go to kneeling to hit past 150 yards. :)

Don’t shoot prone unless you have to and then use a shorter mag. That or use the sling pinned under your arm for extra stability.

Prone would be my favorite and preferred shooting position except:

1) around here where I generally shoot, you often can't see the target through the weeds when prone.
2) old age makes getting on and off my belly less than fun.

At 300 yards all else being equal that Ruger Mini is gonna get crushed by a quality AR.

"Crushed," sounds like a sporting taunt.

Fine for paper target scoring from a bench or bipod/bag.

At 300 yards, sitting or prone, w/ sling - the Mini-14 will still stop'em from returning fire.

That's where "Indians" and "Arrows" diverge.

Have you ever shot a Mini-14 at 300 yards? I’ve never observed one hold groups at 100 yards off a bench that would be of much use at 3X the distance. I guess if 12” groups before introducing shooter variables is good enough for you when you could have 1/2 that whatever.

Again shooters being equal, the properly built AR is going to win that one hands down. You might have missed that part of my original post. I know, reading is hard.

Obviously - you missed the point entirely.

Enjoy your pointy arrow.

Indians, not w/standing.
