Hey well now that I have been enjoying my new hobby of reloading. I have found myself with a waist problem. I have brass with live primers and some dirty powder. Was thinking of putting it in a trash bag and filling it up with water then just throwing it away. Will this be safe??? I didn't realize the hazard and problem I was creating until it was too late, and have already taken steps to avoid further problems. I still have this collection that needs to be rid of. I cannot de prime this brass before anyone asks.

Stop worrying and just throw the stuff away. If you're incapable of not worrying, oil will kill a primer. So figure out a way get oil into the primer (WD-40, soak the brass, etc.) then just throw the stuff away.

Dirty powder? Just sprinkle it out in your lawn for fertilizer.

Can't de-prime? You say that you're reloading right? Your sizing die did come with a de-capping pin didn't it?

You could alway just run the primed brass through your gun and set off the primers.

Unless it's Berdan primed and he does not have the tools for that.

Oil will kill the primer.
Dump the powder on the lawn.
Done.

Toss the cases/primers in the trash and forget 'em. Only thing that would set 'em off would be a fire and they aren't sticks of dynamite; an unopened can of soup or an empty paint spray can is a bigger fire explosion hazard than a primer.

I seriously doubt that the oil or whatever will deactivate the primer. Just throw the brass/ primer into the trash if you want. There will be others that will tell you many ways to get rid of them.:scrutiny: As long as the bullet/propellant are out of the brass it is not that much of a problem. If you have a round that is loaded wrong and someone COULD chamber and attempt to fire this could be a problem. Just a primer not such a big deal. Just crush the neck well so no one can chamber it and that will be good enough.
