This is a bit of an odd one, lots of points to consider if you wanted to dig into it but I'm sold.

In January 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down a key decision in the case of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. The decision removed unconstitutional restrictions on the ability to speak freely at election time of grassroots groups like NRA and others. But now, some are trying to reverse the decision--and while they recognize that they must amend the Constitution to do so, their amendment would gut the First Amendment rights of organized political groups as we know them.

The late Sen. Paul Wellstone had said during the original debate over the legislation at issue in Citizens United that it was his intention to silence groups like the NRA. While Wellstone singled out the NRA, this law delivered a clear message to all American citizens: "Keep your mouths shut and stay out of our politics."

Read the article at the link below and decide for yourself. If you agree with the NRA-ILA that this could have serious consequences for our Liberty, contact your US Senators and tell them to OPPOSE Senate Joint Resolution 19.

My letter to my congress critters:

Please take action to stop this proposed constitutional amendment that would severely restrict free speech during elections.

The US Supreme Court has already ruled in 2010 that restrictions on the ability to speak freely at election time by grassroots organizations is unconstitutional. Your constituents urge you to OPPOSE SJR 19.

Please reply to me with your position on these measures. Your votes on these issues will be a major consideration in my future voting decisions.

The recent vote on this which passed the Senate was on a motion to allow the resolution to go forward. Several Republicans are taking heat for voting for the motion. They did so to allow the resolutont o reach the floor for debate so they could get their opposing comments in the public record. This may be true of some Dems as well. The real test will be in the final Senate vote.

A proposed Constitiutional Amdendment has to pass both houses by 2/3 majority in each house and then be ratified by 3/4 of the states. This is just the beginning of a very long process. It is not yet time to panic, but it is always time to get involved.

For those that don't quite understand the consequences.. If groups like the NRA couldn't run campaigns/ads or contribute, it would take away the concern politicians have for the NRA. They know if they violate their oaths that groups like the NRA and other grassroot organizations will let the people know and remind them come election time.

Sheeple forget quickly and need to be reminded. :)
Not to mention the fact that our representatives that actually ARE upholding their oaths need our help as much as possible.
