Pros or Cons on Hornady or Dillon presses

I'm thinking about handloading once again. I used to own a Dillon press and was quite happy with it. Recently, I've been looking at a Hornady LNL AP progressive press. There is a lot there that I like.

I'm interested in comments, pros or cons with either system.

If you've experience with both, your comments would be especially appreciated.

You would be better off handling both presses than reading folks biased opinions, including mine.

I like the ergonomics of the LNL. That is why I chose it. You may not, but will never know without pulling the handle a few times.

This is a frequent topic/question and will normally get numerous responses. Both Dillon and Hornady make fine presses in my opinion. It's surprising how few of us know people who have these presses in their homes so we can try them out before buying. I considered the choices for a long time before finally buying the Hornady LNL and I have been completely satisfied. Since I wanted a 5 station press that also indexed automaticly, the decision came down to either the Dillon 650 or the Hornady LNL AP. You cannot go wrong with either one. You can find many posts to read and suggestions as which is best but it is a tough decision that you will have to make. Also, both have excellent customer service if you need help or parts.

I'd want to try both and see which I prefer. If I couldn't do that I don't know what I'd do. I've owned Dillon for 12 years, I'm biased towards them. I'd buy a LnL but I bet I would find something I don't like about it and sell it.

Love my Dillon 550B. Some of the features are designed to catch a mistake if you make on.

I love my lock n load ap. loved it so much I bought the lock n load classic press. I then calibrated the two together by making some shimes and now I can drop a due in either press using the lock n load bushing and no more die setting. I'm sure the Dillion is great, but if cost is a consideration the hornady press is cheaper and is light years ahead of any lee press out there.

Six one way half a dozen the other. If cost is an issue, the Hornady is a great choice. A lot of it depends on you and your reloading style. Take a close look at both brands of presses and pick the one that you think matches you the best. I've owned both and liked the Hornady better, but my best buddy owns Dillon, has loaded on my Hornady and prefers the Dillon.

So if you can, try loading on both, check the features of both closely and buy what makes you the happiest.
