Memorial Day, 2006. Last year I started this thread (link) about my son's summer at Parris Island as a Marine Corps Reserve Recruit. Well, after basic, he headed off to his first year in college where, among other things, he learned to play rugby while finishing the year with a 3.55 GPA.

Saturday a.m. I dropped him off at the airport enroute to Fort Leonard Wood, MO, where he will be doing his MOS training this summer. His choice? Military Police (link).

I'm proud of him, and of all those who have served under arms on behalf of this country. Thank you!

Update

Just picked up my son on his return from Ft. Leonard Wood. Proud and happy to report that he was named Distinguished Honor Graduate--top of his class--and promoted to Lance Corporal just this morning. Looking forward to hearing his stories over the next few days. His Mom and I are glad to have him home!

How did he like Fort Leonard Wood? I live only 25 miles from there and work there nearly every day. If he has to go back there let me know, he will have a friend in the area.

I didn't know Marines trained at Fort Leonard Wood. That's where my son -- Army (Combat Engineer) -- did his basic training. I'm a proud Dad too. My son's a bit older, and out of the Army now. Still making me proud.

When me and my buddies were in the Army we were trained as Cav Scouts at Knox then we were retrained after deployment as MP's at Ft. Lost in the Woods, hated that place!! We used to know some Marines over there, anyways congrats, I just gotta ask...how does he like it at Lost in the Woods??? haha

baz, the Marines conduct MP training (my son's MOS) there. He loved it!
