If anyone is interested in a PRS long range shooting event held each year in July you need to go to You Tube and type in Heat Stroke Open Camargo Oklahoma. The event is facilitated by a family friend and held on their farm, a place where I have visited many times over the past 50 years. I stopped by the farm house to get my friend to go hog hunting and had a new experience of shooting 2 of the long range rifles. The course has targets out to 1740 yards and is very challenging. The video is about 30 minutes long and if you can get by the music it is fun to watch. The competitors are serious long range shooters with top of the line equipment.

the Heat Stroke is put on by the OPPS club which holds regular local matches as well as 2 PRS matches each year. I'm shooting in the other one which is the Shoot for the Green match, coming up 2nd weekend in March.

they are challenging and fun matches, and a great group of guys. pretty cool land for long range shooting too. and lots of wind!

taliv, the reason I placed this thread in Rifle Country was that the hunters like me who post over there never look at Competition Shooting. I was hoping it would give them a feel for what long range competition looks like. I wouldn't have posted the thread if I would have know you would move it. Thanks.

I didn't move it. :) don't know who did. however, there is still a link to the thread in rifle country, so anyone reading rifle country will still see the thread and be able to click it

(btw, you can add a link to the youtube video you're talking about. most people are too lazy to search for it themselves)

taliv, I tried to link the YouTube video to the thread but I couldn't figure out how to make it work. It makes me glad to see you guys who are participating in the Heat Stroke matches. I'm a hunter and I like hunting rifles. When I picked up that 20 pound 6.5 rifle it was a big awakening for me. I also shot a Surgeon 308 that also weighed about 20 pounds. I had along a Winchester FW 30-06 and I quickly realized it was a lot more fun for me to shoot targets out to 500 yards with my hunting rifle, and also a lot cheaper. My wife wouldn't go for spending that kind of money on a rifle & scope and all the practice that's required.
