I've carried a DAO 2nd gen PT-111 (stainless model ) for ~3 years now and though I've liked it well enough I've had a couple of issues...

The origonal model I purchased of Gun Broker and it turned out to be a CA model that only came with one 10 round mag. and the sights seemed to be off slightly left. I had put around 600 round through it and had 3 light primer strike FTFs. All three went bang on the second tap and all were WWB ball.

But I like the size, it carries easilly and I have a nice Don Hume pancake for it....

So today I made a side trip to KTP and they offered me $210 for mine in trade for a NIB 3rd gen SA/DA model with adjustable sights and two 12 round mags. They had it in stock, so I plopped down $150 and took it home.

Maybe not the best deal ever, but I think I'm pretty happy with it.

How do you think I did?

I have not shot their 3rd generation PT111, but I have shot the 2nd generation and really like it. So, I can't speak with too much experience, other than to say I like the DAO concept immensely. So, I think I would have hung on to the one you had. Also, depending on the sights...if your original had the 3 dot, and new one had the Heinie straight 8 sights, I definitely would have NOT traded. I DO NOT LIKE THE 2-DOT SIGHTS!! Just my opinion.

I like the 3 dot sights myself.... but not when they are consistantly off to one side.... even when shooting off a bag.

The new one does have the Heinie sights, and I've never used them before, so I'll have to wait untill tomorrow to see how I like them.

I too was big on the DAO concept at first. But found no reason to not carry with the thumb safety on, as it is so easy to swipe off when drawing the pistol.

And if I'm carrying with the thumb safety on (and one in the pipe) I could see no reason to not take advantage of the SA trigger.

YMMV

well I took "son of stubby" to the range today....

trigger has long take up, but is much, much lighter than the DAO.

Heinie sights seem O.K., will take a little getting used to, but at 25 feet I was all over a 2" circle.

fed through 50 rounds of 115 gr. ball and another box of 147 gr. Win hollow points with out a hiccup.

None of this "gotta run 5 billion rounds thorugh it" to break it in.

Ah, but it's just a crappy Taurus.

I love my 111. I have three primary carry guns: 1) MilPro PT 745, 2) MilPro PT 140 and 3) MilPro PT 111. There's always two to keep each other company in the gunsafe while the other is out protecting my family.

PT145 MIL PRO my daily carry in and out of the house. It's on my right hip now in a crossbreed IWB. Had the second generation PT145 and upgraded to the new one a couple of years ago. Eleven rounds of 45acp w/barnes solid copper flyin' ash trays. Hard to beat. This pistol has never had a problem with Win. white box, reloads of all sorts including cast semi wad cutters and of course my daily carry 185gr Barnes loaded by Taurus specifically for short barrel pistols. The Barnes 185s chronograph right at 925 give or take a few fps out of the little PT. Very little muzzle flash in reduced light. I hated the stupid two dot sights and at first just blacked them out and finally went with a set of Williams Fire Sights, much better.:D
