Why doesn't anyone make one of these? I have been doing a little thinking on the idea and have some interesting concepts that I think would make a very effective close-quarters weapon. Okay, you start with a basic pump platform (although it could not have a rounded reciever like a Remy or Winchester) and incorporate a pistol grip set forward like all bullpups and a pistol grip forearm, then you add a very nice thick tubber buttpad at the stock, take away the tubular magazine and allow the use of detachable magazines. Also a piccatinny rail would be mounted at the top of the gun to allow for optics and put an 18" or 20" barrel on it. I'm not thinking of some super cheesy mega tactical shotgun but just a bullpup with the necessary ergonomics to make it a formidable weapon, not that a traditional pump isn't. Also, I don't believe there are any laws regarding magazine capacity with pump shotguns, right? What do you think, bad idea or good?

Mossberg did make one, don't know why it's not still on the market. If it worked and they were making money and it was selling, it would still be for sale. Unless the government called it NON-SPORTING and "AOW", THAT MIGHT CHANGE SALES.

The concept has merit, but the two domestic versions made so far have had serious drawbacks.

Both the Mossberg and the High Standard had bad triggers, handled like fenceposts and were hard to load quickly.

The South African Neostead bullpup pump action combat shotgun is an excellent design, with twin six shot overhead tubes, so you can load buck/slug/buck/slug or all buck, then all slug, or 12 buck in a row, etc. You can also fire with the loading tubes open if you have a round chambered.

However, the "sporting purpose" crap won't allow it to be imported, plus it's a bit short for the federal limit.

Hmm... any chance that an american manufacturer could license the Neostead and produce it domestically within legal parameters for barrel length, et cetera? Or would the 12+1 capacity kill it before it ever saw production?

It was rumored one of the big makers over here was thinking about it in the mid 90s but the ATF was going to label it a destructive device like the Street Sweeper, so the rumor died off.

Just looked it up - wow what a neat defense gun. It's particularly useful for LE with the selection capability. It's a shame it can't be considered in the U.S.

Hmmm, maybe your right but that would just show how silly the ATF really is. What i'm talking about is no more a destructive device than any other pump shotgun. If they allow pistol grips, folding stocks, and unlimited magazine capacity for domestic pump shotguns than I see no reason why they wouldn't allow a domestic manufacturer to make a bullpup shotgun.
