After a nightmare of an experience with Kahr I'm back to revolvers, this time for good! This one will be carried from now on, likely in my front pocket. It was a toss up between the LCR and the 642. I held both at the gun store today and a few things steered me toward the Ruger: the LCR felt a little lighter, the one I bought came with a nice fiber optic front sight (I like fibers, the 642 did not come w/ any), the grips feel better, and I read a few places online that many prefer the Ruger's trigger. I have a nemesis pocket holster on the way. Anyway this isn't meant to be a ruger vs sw debate. Below is a pic!

I owned one for about half an hour once. Got it home and wifey picked it up. Announced "this one is MINE". Oh, well. Easy come, easy go.

I love this revolver....we purchased one for my Wife. It has the big white dot front sight but otherwise the same as yours. It is too snappy for her mid 50ish arthritic hands to master except with 110 gr. handloads.

I'll carry it in a pocket with a High noon Pocket Grabber. It took me a while to get a handle on the recoil but now I am proficient with full house 158 gr. defense loads. Make no mistake - a 13.5 oz revolver with full house .38s is like getting slapped very hard on a first date. I kinda liked it....:what:

Bought a couple of 5 Star speed loaders to go with it and I'm ready to go:

Some of the more "generic" speedloaders may or may not work so well but the 5 Stars are perfect.

The LCR has the best trigger DA I ever pulled and the polymer frame and stainless stuff makes clean up a breeze. For pocket carry I really like my LCR .38.

Congrats on your purchase!!

I Like your new wheel gun!
I think you will enjoy it.
Between the LCR and 642, I'd go with the LCR, but .357 that way it would weigh 1oz more than my 642, but I have the option to shoot .357 ( not that I would, but it's nice to have options).

Mine also has the FO sight. It's great in broad daylight, and nice in medium lighting conditions, but anything more than a dim corridor and it disappears like any other plain blade. That being said, I am still glad I paid the extra $10 for the one with the FO sight, since it does have some more utility.

I once owned a 642. Wanted to love it. Ended up hating it. Recoil was miserable to me. Accuracy was actually better than expect in slow fire, but with that really heavy tough trigger, I could not put together any quick followup shots.

It's a night and day difference with the LCR. Recoil is still good 'n snappy. no doubt about that. BUT it is lighter and the trigger is lightyears better.
My wife was so impressed, she got one for herself as well. Now we have a matching pair.

I was favorably impressed shooting the LCR. Didn't expect to like it at all, and was quite surprised to like it so much.

My regular CC carry is an LCR in a front pocket holster. The favorable things about the LCR are the light weight and conceal-ability as many are the times I forget that I'm carrying it. Mine stays loaded with +P's. I don't want to make range practice with +P's a steady habit as the recoil has a bite but in a deadly confrontation, you're not going to be aware of what the ammo is that you're shooting or the recoil.

I read a few places online that many prefer the Ruger's trigger.

After handling both the S&W 642 and Ruger LCR what is your opinion about the respective trigger pulls?

Nice piece. I was in the same boat after my Kel Tec incident. Almost got the LCR due to price & weight, but weight won out and I went with the S&W Airlite @ 11 oz.

I've found that the Nemesis is great for dress and casual pants. But it's a bit too wide for jeans and shorts. For those I like the Uncle Mike's #3.

Best carry ammo I've tried for the LCR is the Rem. 125+P Golden Saber. Most accurate. Recoil snappy but not as bad as the Speer 135+P short barrel.

I remember having that same conversation, negotiation, and outcome.

nebraska_farmer, great choice there! I have a pair of KLCRs that I use for CC and I can't say enough good things about them. Mine have the XS big dot front sight and one has the Crimson Trace grips and both are worthwhile upgrades. I like the look of the .38 Spl cylinder with it's rounded appearance more than the .357 cylinder but regardless, I consider the LCR/KLCR to be one of the best firearms to come along in years. They're a game changer for CC.

I had one. Darn good trigger but I couldn't get used to the reset. Swopped it for a 642. Bought a new state of the art .22 auto. HATED that thing. LGS still had my old LCR so I swopped the .22 for it back.

I have had .357 for a couple of years now and i have a number of sidearms that are suitable for carry but the KLCR see's the most time, i can load it up for a woods/trail sidearm and i can run normal 38 for other uses.
people say it's too light for .357 but i have found the mid or lower power .357 is just fine and i have found the KLCR has less FELT recoil than my SP101, my thinking is it is in the polymer frame and the Hogue grip.

Just a sweet revolver

This was my first firearm of any description. For SD, I have chosen the Buffalo Bore 20D: standard pressure load, optimized for a short barrel, low flash powder, 150 grain hard-cast wadcutter bullet, traveling at 850 fps. This is intended to have minimal risk of over-penetration. The downside is if the BG is on the other side of an obstacle. There, you might be safer with +P ball ammo.
I bought it with the idea that my wife might take to it and find it manageable.

Got the LCR for the wife, liked it so well bought another for myself and semi-retired my old Cobra.

Wife can't rack a semi auto and wanted a small revolver to carry. We tried what seemed like them all a few years back. I wanted her to handle everything we could get her hands on. The LCR fit the bill and we never looked back. Really can't think of anything bad about it and my wife loves it for her carry. Fits her Gun Totin Mama purse perfectly. The S &W didn't really put up much of a fight in the overall taste test.

I've had my LCR for a couple months and I'm very pleased with it! It's very easy to shoot and the trigger is better than I'd anticipated. I see they now have one with an external hammer but I'm glad I got the one with no hammer; if there was a hammer I'd be tempted to cock it every time and the range, just like I did with the five other snubbies I've had over the years. That's all good and well for printing nice groups but if I ever need to produce the gun to save my life there will likely be not time to thumb cock it and no concern for nice tight groups! This way I'm forced to train like I'd fight with the gun.

I like my LCR so much that I'm considering purchasing the .22lr version, mostly for cheap training. Plus I have about five thousand rounds of lead .22 lr with a shape/profile that won't reliably run through my Ruger Mk I, but it would be fine in a wheelgun.

Any thoughts on DAO or the DA/SA w/ the hammer spur? I guess in general the hammer spur snags on stuff, the slot lets more cruft into the gun, and you're not likely to need to cock a snubby anway? How about on the LCR in particular? Does anybody have any experience with both options? (ETA: I'm not seeing the hammered version on Ruger's page, but have seen one locally. It is a regular hammer, with spur, more like an SP-101 or S&W 637 than like a S&W 638)

How much heavier is the .357? How much bigger?

I've carried a snubby for forty six years. Three years ago I switched from a S&W to the LCR. Ruger hit a home run with it. Mine is loaded with Cor Bon DPX 110gr.+P.

Good luck to the OP with his.
