wanted to ask the people who know

what is the caliber that is chambered in
both handguns and rifles and

that experiences less than 10 inch drop at 250-300 yards

I thought it was .357 magnum or .41 magnum --
but I was wrong.

I don't even think the mighty 460 S&W mag will meet those criteria. You need 30-06 class round to get a total drop less than that at those kind of ranges

thank you for the suggestion on .454 and Puma

did not know about those (the round and the Company)

Check out the Puma lever-action in .454 Casull. You can get speeds around 2000 fps if memory serves.

just started reading on the Casull, so
will a lever or bolt action rifle and/or revolver chambered in .460 S&W magnum also support the .454 casull?

from wikepedia
The recently introduced .460 S&W Magnum cartridge has the same diameter as a .45 Colt or .454 Casull, and therefore revolvers chambered for it will also chamber the .454 Casull and .45 Colt.

Any handgun cartridge that will do that is either

A) A gimmick shooting a tiny bullet that isn't good for anything once it gets there, eg 17-357.

B) A gimmick with uncontrollable recoil, eg 500 S&W with saboted .30 rifle bullets.

It should, but I don't know of any rifles chambered for the .460S&W. (note that factory .460S&W bullets have pointed tips; not good in a tube-fed magazine)

You can buy a 20" T/c encore carbine in 460 magnum. I had one for awhile, recoil even in a rifle is VICIOUS, so bad it actually broke a scope ring and destroyed a shotgun scope.

But even this doesn't shoot very flat. My full throttle handload pushing a 300grn xtp to a velocity 2200 fps sighted in at 100 yds drops 11.97" by the 200yd mark. There simple isn't a handgun round that meets the criteria you set fourth.

460 operates at the same pressure level 300 win mag operates at. Meaning you won't be likely to EVER see a levergun so chambered. of course it goes without mentioning that my single shot would shoot all three rounds. But with one minor problem! Due to the significant velocity differences between 460/454/45 you had to completely re sight the rifle in for to the specific ammo you were shooting. The difference in impact between 45LC and 460 magnum loads was about THREE FEET at 100 yds with 454 running right in the middle.

So much for swapping ammo.

according to winchester ballistic tables
250grain load casull (0.142 BC bullet) will drop 50 inches at 250 yards
from a handgun barrel, when zeroed at 100 yards

I think it will do better from a rifle
barrel. However, at 60,000psi the recoil is equivalent of
.338 winchester magnum of a 10 pound rifle.

So it does appear that what I was looking for simply
does not exist (I also wanted to clarify that 'less than 10 inch drop' I was looking for
I meant to be from a rifle barrel (20 inch or above), not from handgun barrel)

Interesting, that some handgun cartriges/revolvers are easily supporting high-pressure rounds
(over or around 50,000 - 55,000 psi) however for some reason the bullets they use are always heavy and therefore
droping very fast.

I imagine that someone has experimented with 50,000 psi
handgun cartrige that has 150 grain bullet that is workeable for both handgun and a rifle (may be bolt action
to allow pointed bullets). May be the 10mm was meant at one time to be like that :).

thank you for all the responses and very intersting info/experiences
