I just bought some factory primed .338 Winchester Mag brass.

Does anyone know if this brass is primed with standard rifle or magnum primers?

Thanks,

Ken

It had better be mag primers. That is alot of powder to get going at one time. You best bet is to talk to the guy you bought it from.

If in doubt, run them through your rifle and touch off the primers, de-cap them and reprime with whatever you need. Other than having to clean your barrel and being a bit noisy, you wont hurt anything and primers are very cheap.

I should have said Federal factory primed brass.

Prior to posting this, I had called the outfit I ordered the brass from several times but they couldn't tell me what primers were used.
Finally, on my last call today, I got past the order takers and spoke with someone who appeared to know what he was talking about.

He told me the Federal .338 brass is primed with standard primers.

That's what I was hoping to hear because I've never used magnum primers and all my loads were developed using standard primers.

Just out of curiosity, how much do you guys who use magnum primers cut your powder charge to compensate for the hotter primer?
