Question about my 870 I am new at shotguns!

Ok I have had this shotgun for a long while it a Remington 870 Express Magnum 20 gauge.. I used it for hunting when I was a kid.. I was wanting to turn it into a home defense gun .. Could I change the barrel and stock for a good price? Where could I find these items? Would it be worth it to me to convert this?

Ebay has old wood police stock sets for about $15, but synthetic stock sets will run you about $50.00 and more.

Barrels can vary, I heard Ebay also has good deals on the. I think they go for around $150.

Knoxx now has the SpecOps stock for the 20 ga Remingtons.
I just received one that I'm planning on putting on an 870 Express 20.

As for a shorter barrel (18 to 18-1/2" barrel) I'm going to have to look around for that.

My son's 870 Youth has a 21" barrel.

I actually got the stock for him. He's kinda small in size and even cutting down an old 'beater' stock, it's still too long.
When I set this 870 Youth gun up for him, its definitely NOT for HD.


Unfortunately, there's not any real stocks made for small(er) kids and women.

What will fit my gun though .. if it says 870 I usually think about 12 GA .. Will everything that says "Fits 870" fit my gun?

just keep your eyes out for a cheap 18 or 20 inch used barrel. Get the cheap wooden police stock, they look nicer than the plastic ones anyway. Here's a picture of my HD shotgun:

Don't understand why you want a different stock. The police stocks are no better than the one that came on your express. A barrel length of 24" or less would be better for close quartersl but not absolutely needed.

Any shotgun loaded with buckshot or slug can be used effectively for home defense. A shotgun is basicly a barricade weapon inside the home, outside it makes a pretty good stand off weapon with the right loads. Get behind a locked door or cover and blast any bad guys that come to you while waiting for the police. Let the police clear the house after they get there.

Most of the attraction of the HD short barreled riot guns is hollywood and marketing.

I want a pistol grip actually now that I think of it.. I need to know where I can get a shorter barrel and will any 870 pistol grip fit a 20 gauge??
