The other day I was in a large, popular sporting goods store, not a chain store, but larger store. I saw a pistol I’ve been considering buying for a while, it’s a decent price so why not, the wife even told me to go ahead and get it.

The guy at the counter asks if the address on my drivers license is right. As a matter of fact it’s not, I moved almost 3 miles. Same state, same town, same zip code, same street, everything except the house number.

he then tells me he can’t sell me the gun. Kind of confused I ask why not and he tells me they’ll reject my background check because the addresses are different. He also told me if I had a tag receipt with my new address on it that would work, which of course had the old address on it. Somehow I don’t think the FBI needs a copy of my tag receipt to check my background because my drivers license address is wrong, but what do I know.

I simply said, “ well I guess that’s that” and left.

Now, I didn’t tell him but I’ve bought 2 guns since I moved, wrong address on license and all. Both times I waited under 30 minutes and left with my gun in hand.

Now, I’m a little hesitant to order something off gun broker or have my local people order me anything as I’m not sure if I’ll be able to pick it up.

The whole thing sounds like BS to me, but he does it for a living, and maybe the 2 I bought were just flukes that slipped through.

I know the simple solution is to just go get my drivers license updated but, man do I hate going to the DMV. Not to mention paying for a new license that I don’t need.

I've had this happen before. I moved (within the same general area) and went to my local gunstore like I always do. I found a gun I liked and started filling out the 4473 when the clerk asked me if my address was correct on my license. It wasn't and the sale halted at that point.

I went out, got my license updated and was back to buy the gun later that day.

Most states have a definite period to change/correct your address information like 60 days, just saying.

You and the FFL were in the wrong then... I would not be advertising that on a public forum.

The LAW says you do need
