does the spring for the slide release rest right under the Locking block pin? Seems after I put it back together the slide release is harder to release .. Thanks!

As these folks have said, the spring leg fits underneath the locking block pin.

Pop the slide off and lift up on the slide release .. verify that it will snap back down with some authority (a little fore and aft play is desired too).
If not, try pushing the trigger pin in ever so slightly from the opposite side that you had installed it from ..
you want to relieve some of the pressure put on the slide release exerted from the reliefs cut into the trigger pin.

You may have to fiddle with it a bit to get it just so.

Did some goofing around with paint:

If the pin is too far left or right it will rub on the release.

...

For anyone who may encounter difficulty removing or installing the trigger pin:

There's no need for hammering. If the release is in the right position, the pin will go in and out easily.

To remove, the slide release needs to be held with one hand and manipulated (jiggled, if you will) so that the larger diameter portion of the pin will move on through the hole in the slide release easily while pushing with your punch.

To install, I've found it easiest to start the pin from the right, part way into the trigger, then put the frame tween my knees and push it in with my thumb until it butts up to the slide release, then do the jiggle while pushing the pin home. I'll then use the punch to push the pin in the last tiny bit.

Finally, I'll check that the release will snap smartly when lifted up a bit and let go.
