Question about Walther P99 "Quick Action"

This is said to be "Single Action only, with decocker."

Well if a gun with no external hammer is SAO (not DA/SA), and has a decocker, then what's the point really? I mean you can't shoot it upon decocking without ejecting the round in the chamber (racking), in which case you may as well have carried the gun without any round in the chamber, since you have to rack the slide before using it, in which case there is no need for a decocker....am I missing something?

Nope!

Its been discussed before. If you pretend the decocker is not there its just like a Glock in terms of operations, but should something press the decocker unbeknown to you .....

They try to put a positive spin on it "in a struggle for the weapon pressing the decocker would take it out of action" and IMHO insure you lose the struggle given where its located, and hope the gobblin never heard of tap-rack-bang!

I happen to like the P99 and would have one if the QA lacked the lame decocker. I hate DA/SA guns so the AS is out. The DAO version forget about it, -- for DAO I'd rather have a Taurus 24/7 at about half the price. YMMV.

I have the p99QA, when one is in the hole, and its decocked, all it takes is a little pull on the slide and its cocked. you move it maybe a 1/2 of an inch if that at all to cock it. Works very well in my opinion, so if your not comfortable carrying it cocked, you can put one in the pipe.. decock it. When you need to use it, give it a the slightest tug and its ready to go.

The P99's decocker is located in a seriously stupid location, to boot.

its in an area that if your going to decock your gun, you have to actually take remove your finger from the trigger, and press the little button. The P99 has a safety trigger too. It does not get in the way either, no snagging or anything like that. I would say its in a good spot. I own one and out of use of the pistol find the decocker useful. I usually decock my pistol when I am not shooting it and its sitting there loaded.
