Hi guys. Returning to the forums again after a looooooooong hiatus.
I'd imagine that this situation is probably somewhat unique. I'm an American, and an uncle of mine (a Canadian citizen) who lived in Alberta passed away recently. When my aunt called us a few days ago to give us the news, the issue of where some of his possessions will go came up.
My uncle owned a couple of bolt action rifles and a double-barrel shotgun, which are still at his house, and I'd like to take possession of them and bring them back across the border. But I've got a few questions:

My uncle owned a couple of bolt action rifles and a double-barrel shotgun, which are still at his house, and I'd like to take possession of them and bring them back across the border. But I've got a few questions:
- Can I legally do this, per Canadian law?
- If so, what is the process that I can go through to legally take possession?
- Does the scrapping of the long-gun registry have any positive effect on this? I know that these guns were registered long before it ended.
- Could I theoretically get away with just taking them and bringing them through US customs normally, without any legal ramifications for my aunt?
- If I can't do any of the above, is there some other way to keep them out of the hands of the RCMP, like having them sold to another Canadian citizen?
- And last but not least: Are there any government websites that might give me more insight?
